The Witcher 3′s Delay Should Be Appreciated

Sean Halliday of Pixel Gate writes:

''Normally video game delays come with a sigh of disappointment along with the despairing thought of yet another game in developmental hell. Truth be told, however, some delays are just what a game needs. The latest Thief, for example, stinks of a game that could have done with a good few extra months of polish before it was released. The point, then: delays may have a negative impact on the consumer, but the product benefits from it.''

Nobody should be mad that a game is delayed to make it better, especially when it's a developer as proven a CD Project Red.

xPhearR3dx3696d ago

I have yet to see ANYONE actually mad it was delayed, just disappointed we wont get to play it this year.

I know for a fact it will be worth the wait, but man, how I wish I could have played it this year.

joab7773695d ago

While they r my favorite developer and its my most anticipated game and I have every bit of faith in them and the game, the reasoning is two fold.

By february, the number of next gen consoles could reach 20-25 million sold and for a game this big, its a necessity for investors to have the best chance to make money. That comes after Xmas and during tax season.

elninels3695d ago

You make an excellent point regarding number of consoles sold. I beliece thats part of what watch dogs delay was as well.

ObiWanaTokie3695d ago

It was only a temporary burn. everyone loves the respect CD Pr is giving this game. we are in for a great 2015. scary good year, that one.

GeraltofRivia3696d ago

When the God of gaming companies decides to delay something it is perfectly understandable. It just means that one of the best games ever made will be even more incredible.

die_fiend3695d ago

I'm not sure they're the God of gaming companies. They've made about 2 games

GeraltofRivia3695d ago

They have given all DLC away for free and made games where choices you make (Geralt makes) change the game story and environment significantly. Especially in the Witcher 2 where about half the game is completely different based on a choice you make (different characters, different environments, etc...) To me that is Godlike and I do not know any other game company who has done that.

No_Limit3696d ago

As long as the delay means the game will be better, I have no problem with it unless it is MIA like the Agent or the Last Guardian.

SonofGod3695d ago

I hope the delay was because of Directx 12, that would be golden for PC gamers.

Ninjamonkey823695d ago

You will find the delays where nothing to do with the PC lad and everything to do with the console. The game is optimized for PC at the moment there's a lot of stress for Dev's to get it just right in the fps and resolution stakes and its leading to this. Not the first and not the last game that will be delayed this way.

n4rc3695d ago

I dont think we should appreciate a delay at all..

Taking your time to properly finish? Yes..

Setting a release date and not making your schedule is not praise worthy..lol

Don't set a date until you are sure you can meet it

GamerEuphoria3695d ago

Yeah I mean who doesn't love a rushed out game barely working?!

n4rc3695d ago

I didn't say that.. Actually I said the opposite..

I'm making fun of the title.. Acting like missing your release date is something to be admired or something.. Its bad business

But.. Yes.. Its nice that they didn't rush out an unfinished game.. I'm glad they are taking the time they need.. That part is how it should be.. Say its a 2015 game if needed.. We expect long development times

But you shouldn't announce a date until you are damn sure you can meet it.. It seems common place lately.. Probably to try and make that launch drought seem shorter.

Perjoss3695d ago

Yes, because everything always goes exactly as planned. What about when ideas for new features or improvements appear halfway through development? or would you rather they keep those out of the game and sell them to you in the form of DLC.

Maybe they shouldn't put out a release date until they are very close to completion, but in the end who cares when a game is released? there is plenty of other good things to play while you wait.

GamerEuphoria3695d ago

Get style hype train started, or maybe things were going to plan until they hit a snag/new idea. I'd rather they take their time and deliver their masterpiece as opposed to a alright game

ObiWanaTokie3695d ago

n4rc then every game would be unpolished rubbish. remember development can change within a week basis. They are going to wow with this game.

GamerEuphoria3695d ago

Who knows, they could of got to a point where they wanted to redesign a chunk of the game in order to improve the experience. Anythings better than forcing yourself to a date, Fable 3 being a example. It had so much crap chucked in but underdeveloped and unfinished creating a mess of a game

die_fiend3694d ago

@n4rc

What release date? They didn't set one and then not make it. Maybe engage your brain before writing such drivel.

'But you shouldn't announce a date until you are damn sure you can meet it.' <- Most braindead comment ever. You know that making games is a complicated business with a lot of variables? Of course you don't, you're a zombie

n4rc3694d ago

And your probably a kid.. But Yes it is... That's why you don't prematurely set launch dates..until you're past those variables

And how could it be delayed if they never said when it would be released?

die_fiend3694d ago

@n4rc

I'm probably a kid. It's too ironic that you've written 'your a kid' instead of 'you're a kid' because you're too simple to know the difference. Haha, quality!

I don't even know what you mean 'Yes it is'. Ok pal, tell me what the release date was. Don't spend too long on it, as I'm right and you're wrong and you'll just be looking forever.

The 7 Best Western RPGs: Immersive Adventures

RPGs are often huge, sprawling endeavours. With limited playtime, we have to choose wisely, so here's the best western RPGs available today.

SimpleSlave22d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan22d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.

King of Fighters 94

Street Fighter 2
Resident Evil 1

Infinite but not the first two games? Witcher 3 but not the first two games?? GTA V but not literally any of the games before it??? Portal 2 but not the first? Also if you're going to play Shadow of The Colossus play the remaster and not the remake. Can't say I disagree with the list but my man it's all over the place.

Name Last Name46d ago

I mean some sequels are objectively better and you don’t need to play the whole series.

Inverno46d ago

But most of these games have a story to follow, sure you can catch up with a YouTube vid but where's the fun in that?

LucasRuinedChildhood46d ago (Edited 46d ago )

A list like this isn't telling you not to play the previous games if you want to. It's just giving you legendary games to play.

But tbh, you don't always have to force yourself to play every entry in a franchise to get to the better ones.

- The vast majority of Witcher 3 players never played the first 2 and had a great time. The first 2 games aren't in the same league.
- The GTA games are self-contained with the odd fun reference. You can easily jump into any of them.
- The Shadow Of The Colossus remake looks and controls better than the original (plus it has a 60fps option while the remaster is just 30fps). New players will enjoy it more.
- Portal 2 is a lot better than Portal 1 and takes the concept much further gameplay-wise. Storywise, Portal 1 is fairly light too. Not that you shouldn't play it but realistically ... you'd love Portal 2 whether you play it or not (at lot of Portal 2 players have never played 1).

Bioshock 1 is the only one I agree with you on simply because it's one the best games of all time and arguably better than Infinite. No other setting like Rapture.

Looking at the list, I'd recommend playing Uncharted 1 before 2 but no doubt, 2 is the legendary one you have to play.

Inverno46d ago

I get it, but that's just my opinion on his opinion. I just think that before you play a sequel you should still play what came before it. Maybe it's just me but i find it fascinating playing through the first game in a series and seeing how it has evolved through its sequels. Like I said I don't disagree with the list, other than SoTC which I strongly believe the remaster of the original should be played above the remake.

AuraAbjure45d ago

Awesome list! Hot take on Fear (and it's hard af expansion Persaus Mandate!) Bioshock Infinite is stellar, so is the Witcher 3 and you nailed it by having Ocarina of Time. So many fantastic games! Gotta play 'em all! Next one on my list is Prey after I beat Dead Space 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction.
