150 sq. ft. Studio

In 2001 I started building a small workshop near my parents house on an island in Casco Bay, Maine. I spend a couple of weeks each summer working on the shop. It is framed and sheathed in lumber milled from trees that were blown down in a windstorm on the island. I have tried to make this very small space as open and flexible as possible. The island has a large lobstering community and the lobstermen keep small “fish houses” on the shore near their boats. Studying these workspaces has been a good lesson in how to create a small but efficient workspace. The exterior is almost complete and I have started the process of outfitting the inside with tools, a workbench and materials storage.
