The event, which will be introduced by comics historian and Comic Art writer Paul Gravett, explores the history of the medium and offers practical advice on writing a graphic novel script, teaming with the right artist and promoting the book.

The classes will be led by political cartoonist Martin Rowson (Tristram Shandy, Gulliver's Travels), The Guardian and New Statesman contributor Karrie Fransman (The House That Groaned) and novelist Toby Litt (Beatniks, King Death, Dead Boy Detectives).

Broadcaster and journalist Alex Fitch will chair a panel discussion to round off the day.

'How To Create a Graphic Novel' will run from 9.30am to 5.30pm at The Guardian offices on York Way. Tickets are available from the newspaper's website.
