Poach Chicken in a Drip Coffee Maker

Gizmodo's Taste Test week shows off our gadget-obsessed blog sibling's thoughts at the intersection of food and devices. So for its MacGyver Chef series, poaching chicken breasts and couscous in a coffee maker was an oddly perfect first pick.

Dan Nosowitz walks through the slim ingredient list (chicken breasts, butter, couscous, seasoning) and fairly basic preparation needed to deliver an almost well-rounded meal using only a coffee maker, whether in your own or in the hotel room. The end product is, as Nosowitz admits, somewhat bland and not all that exciting, so we'd like to open it up to our own adventurous makeshift chefs and ask how you'd bump up the flavor on Coq du Monsieur Coffee.

Stay tuned to the MacGyver Chef exploits, because a dishwasher-steamed salmon might be coming up next. Intrigued by the possibilities of cooking with only hotel equipment? Check out how one clever Brit cooks an entire meal in his hotel room.
