Xiaomi had introduced MIUI 9, latest version of its Android-based UI, back in July, though that announcement occurred in China, and the company has just announced a release the schedule of MIUI 9’s global ROM. The global beta ROM landed on July 27, and the final build will start rolling out to the Xiaomi smartphone users on November 3 (today), though not all phones will get it straight away. Having said that, Xiaomi plans to bring this update to a ton of its smartphones, and the company has released a more detailed info regarding the rollout.

Xiaomi’s MIUI 9 starts rolling out today to consumers who own the Redmi Note 4 (Qualcomm variant), Redmi Note 4X and Mi Max 2 handsets. All of those phones have to be on a global MIUI 8 ROM in order for you to update to a global MIUI 9 build, of course, so keep that in mind. Now, starting in mid-November, the Mi MIX 2, Redmi Y1, Redmi Y1 Lite, Redmi 4X, Mi 5 and Mi Max will get MIUI 9. The Xiaomi Mi MIX, Mi 2 (and later versions), Mi Note (and later versions), Redmi Note 4G (and later versions), Redmi 2 (and later version) will start getting MIUI 9 from early December. Now, in case you’re not willing to wait for the update to reach your phone and install it OTA, you can download it manually via the company’s website. Now, if you download it, you can simply install it from your phone, no need to hook up your device to a PC or anything of the sort, just make sure you grab the right version, which you can do via this link. When you download the package, open up the system update app on your smartphone, click on the three dots in the upper right corner, and you’ll be able to install the update from local storage.

Now, MIUI 9 brings a lot of changes compared to MIUI 8, though the general design of the UI did not change all that much. Xiaomi did change some aspects of it, but this is not a huge revamp or anything of the sort. MIUI 9 supports three major styles for notifications, Multiple Styles, Bundling Notifications and Quick Replies. Split Screen functionality has been added with this update as well, and the same can be said for the new MIUI Video App. App Vault is here as well, and Mi Drop lets you transfer your files between devices without an internet. There are plenty more changes listed in the changelog, check the ‘via’ link down below for more info.
