As always, Cowell sported a pair of high-slung, generously cut jeans beneath a conventional grey sweater, while polished brown shoes rounded things off.

With grizzled grey stubble covering his chin and cheeks, the X Factor judge appeared relaxed during his latest public appearance.

Cowell's cheerful demeanour may well be associated to a drastic change in lifestyle after he  ditched vodka from his diet, as well as making a conscious effort to severely cut down on the amount of cigarettes he smokes per day.

Speaking to Now magazine, the music mogul said: 'I've cut down smoking to two [cigarettes] a day. That's it!'

Cowell had been known to smoke up to 80 cigarettes a day and revealed he has now stuck to drinking just water.

The star had left many concerned following news he had fallen at his home and had to be rushed to hospital. It's believed Cowell fell down the stairs early in the morning, as he tripped while going to get a glass of milk.

He was forced to miss the live show of The X Factor as a result and had admitted that the terrifying fall had reminded him he isn't 'invincible'. He was pictured being rushed to hospital while being stretchered out of his home in a neck brace.

After undergoing tests, he later returned to his home on the same day. He had been alone at the time of his fall, as his girlfriend Lauren Silverman was over in the US.

Cowell was replaced by Britain's Got Talent judge Alesha Dixon for the first X Factor live show, where host Dermot O'Leary had addressed his absence and jokingly asking the rest of the judging panel, Nicole Scherzinger, Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne, who was to blame for his accident.

He later spoke about the fall and revealed he had fainted as a result of low blood pressure. Speaking to The Sun, Cowell vowed to clean up his lifestyle for the sake of his young son Eric, three, whom he shares with Lauren.

He claimed it was his 'responsibility' as a father to take care of his health.

'Sometimes we get a reminder that we're not invincible and this was certainly mine,' he said.

'It was a huge shock. They think I fainted because I had low blood pressure and so I have got to really take good care of myself to sort that out. After all I am a dad and have more responsibility than ever.'

Explaining how the fall had happened, he added: 'I'd gone to get some hot milk because I felt ropey. On the way back upstairs, I just remember feeling really dizzy.'

'Next thing I know someone was putting a neck brace on me and I had a terrible headache, which must have been from me hitting the stairs.'

'I was worried at first that I'd done some real damage. But I'm on the mend now. I know I was very lucky I didn't hurt myself seriously. It could have been a lot worse. I must say, everyone at the hospital were incredible. I'm truly grateful.'

Cowell admitted he was fearful he had 'broken his neck', as a result of his tumble and claimed while he was lying on the floor, he thought of his son Eric reprimanding him for his fall.

'I was lying on my back thinking, "I hope I haven’t broken my neck." But the NHS staff were the most amazing people I’ve ever met, genuinely. Fortunately it was all fine.'

Speaking of Eric, he added: 'He [Eric] probably would have told me off, and I didn’t want to worry him. He’s only three.'

Whilst the fall hasn't left Cowell with any lasting damage, it has helped him realise what is important. He added: 'It does make you realise what’s truly important in life.'
