Taylor Swift Now Has The Second-Most Appearances Among Women On The Singles Chart

This article is more than 6 years old.

Just before she unleashed the monster that is her new album Reputation, Taylor Swift kept her fans happy and partially satiated by dropping a handful of songs from the project over the several weeks leading up to the full-length's official street date. The last of these might be the lowest-charting of the bunch, but it has quickly become very important to Swift.

Promotional single “Call It What You Want” has just debuted at No. 27 on the Hot 100, giving Swift her seventy-fourth appearance on the all-encompassing songs tally. By adding another hit to her impressive catalog, the former country star has pulled ahead of the competition and come one step closer to being the woman with the most charting songs...though she still has a way to go before she catches up with the female at the top.

With 74 Hot 100-charting tunes to her credit, Swift moves one position ahead of the legendary Aretha Franklin. Just a short time ago, the two were tied at 73, which Swift reached by releasing her Reputation promotional single “Gorgeous,” which kicked off its time on the tally at No. 13, just barely missing out on becoming another top 10 for the singer.

Swift is now in second place when it comes to the women with the most Hot 100 appearances, behind only Nicki Minaj. The prolific rapper has launched 81 songs onto the all-genre listing, and that sum is sure to continue to rise very soon. Minaj places both her own smashes and ones where she is featured on the chart quite often, and she tacks on many new placements every year. With new music expected from the hip-hop powerhouse at some point in the not-too-distant-future, she may soon become the first woman to hit 100 Hot 100 charting appearances, while it will likely take Swift another album or two to do so.

It’s not clear how many other Swift songs will hit the Hot 100 next week when her album finally charts, as it wasn’t available on streaming platforms, which is critical to a tune finding a place on the all-encompassing tally these days. The "Look What You Made Me Do" singer still hasn’t broken into the top 10 on the list of the most Hot 100 appearances when it's expanded to include men, though she’s only a few songs away from blowing past Ray Charles and joining the highest tier of charting artists. Currently, the cast of the show Glee owns the record for the most Hot 100 hits, with 207, while the record for a solo act belongs to Drake, who can now claim 157 hits.
