600V gate drivers work with 3.3V MCUs

Diodes has introduced 600V half-bridge drivers that are compatible with 3.3V logic.

Diodes DGD2103M

Numbered DGD2103M, DGD2104M and DGD2304, the chips have a floating high-side driver capable if driving an n-channel mosfet.

“These drivers suit a wide range of motor control and power supply applications in industrial automation and white goods, that require AC and DC motor control boards rated above 100W, and LLC resonant converter power supply topologies,” said the firm.

They work with 3.3V microcontrollers because the inputs are compatible with logic-levels from 2.5V, while the gate drive output operates up to the Vcc supply of 10-20V to minimise mosfet or IGBT conduction losses.

Dead-time control is included, and delay times are matched, to prevent high and low mosfets conducting at the same time.

DGD2103M and DGD2104M have Schmitt trigger inputs against false triggering in noisy motor applications.

DGD2304 is intended for higher-frequency application sand has a shorter, typically 100ns, internal dead-time,.

Self-protection features include a gate drive that is tolerant to negative transients arising from high dV/dt switching, and under-voltage lock-out to avoid malfunction under low supply voltage conditions.

All three gate drivers are offered in an industry standard SO-8 package, and are pin-for-pin compatibility with parts from other manufacturers, “but with superior faster switching performance”, claims Diodes – see below for numbers.

All devices typically have 290mA source and 600mA sink capability.

Timing for DGD2103M and DGD2104M is 420ns dead-time, 680ns Ton propagation delay and 150ns Toff delay.

DGD2304 has 95ns Ton and 100ns Toff, and rise and fall times are 70 and 35ns respectively

DGD2103M and DGD2304M have high and low inputs, with different input phase options.

DGD2104M has a single PWM input, plus a shut-down pin.
