Can Al Madril defeat Frank Dusek with Bill Irwin lurking? What other special guests will appear in this reflection? Read on!
Glad to have you here, Mr. Ewing. Care for a bourbon and branch?
Opening montage.
Match 1: Carlos Zapata versus Tony Torres
Highlights:
- For those familiar with ECW, Torres resembled El Puerto RicaƱo.(courtesy of profightdb.com)
- Ring announcer Marc Lowrance looked like he either came from the discotheque or the golf course because he’s wearing plaid pants. 1982, folks.
- After a back drop, Zapata got 2.
- He then slammed Torres, but the rookie came back with a leap frog and a dropkick.
- As Torres missed a second dropkick, Zapata got 2.
- He then tried a slam, but Torres countered with an inside cradle for 2.
- When Torres came back with a hip toss and a cross corner whip, he came up empty on his follow-through.
- Zapata then hooked a swinging neckbreaker.
- 1-2-3.
- Zapata won.
Rating: DUD
Summary: Prelim match if there ever was one. Definitely not TV-worthy but rather second match of a house show circuit.
Goodson then interviews Kevin Von Erich who seems more interested in the local ring rats than competing. He also wants to rid wrestling of Gary Hart. As Kerry joins the interview, he reads a letter from “Margaret Loveletter” who just loves WCCW.
Chucky, leave Kerry alone and go find Tiffany.
Match 2: The Great Kabuki (w/ Gary Hart) versus Richard Blood
Highlights:
- After a pair of arm drags, Blood gave Kabuki a flying headscissors.
- He then hooked a second one before eating a thrust kick.
- Shortly after, he gave Kabuki a shoulder block before Kabuki chopped him.
- Kabuki then mounted the second turnbuckle and hit a fist drop.
- When Kabuki gave Blood a series of thrust kicks, he mounted the second turnbuckle again for another fist drop.
- Yet again, he mounted the second turnbuckle and punished Blood with another fist drop.
- 1-2-3.
- Kabuki won.
Rating: *
Summary: Showcase match for Kabuki.
After the match, both a physician and Al Madril check on Blood.
Match 3: Kerry Von Erich versus the Great Kabuki (w/ Gary Hart)
Highlights:
- This was a re-run from the 1/9/82 episode.
- Let’s fast-forward.
- Hey, Rerun, where are Rog and Dwayne?
Rating: **
**UPDATE** According to David, Blood has suffered either a bruised or broken sternum. OUCH! I wouldn’t wish that on my worst neighbor.
OK, I might do that instead.
Match 4: Ivan Putski versus Jack Taylor
Highlights:
- After a pair of hip tosses, Putski delivered the Polish hammer.
- 1-2-3.
- Putski won.
Rating: DUD
Summary: Showcase match for Putski.
After the match, Putski grabs the microphone and yells “Polish power.”
Goodson then interviews Armand Hussein who plugs WCCW. Next, he interviews Hart with Kabuki. Hart’s determined to destroy “the house of Von Erich.”
Kevin, do yourself a favor and return to obscurity.
Match 5: Al Madril versus “Captain” Frank Dusek (w/ “Wild” Bill Irwin)
Highlights:
- According to Goodson, Irwin defeated Madril to become NWA Texas champion. Unfortunately, I cannot corroborate his claim as most reports the title change in June.
- While the Dallas faithful chanted “Chauncey” at Irwin, Madril leap-frogged Dusek but hurt his right knee.
- Referee Bronco Lubich called for the bell since Madril could not continue.
- C’mon, gentlemen, we don’t want an Oklahoma-Texas feud in here. Save it for the Cotton Bowl.
- Dusek won.
Rating: DUD
Summary: Not much of a match prior to the knee injury.
When Irwin joins Dusek in the ring, David hits the ring to chase the heels away before checking on Madril.
Conclusion: There aren’t many shows I’ve give a hard pass, but this is truly one of them.
Paz, keep your chin up. RSG has more WCCW coming.
TV Rating: NONE
