When I mark one of my books as "read," that means I FINISHED THE FIRST DRAFT! Woohoo! Dance, dance, dance. :D
I feel these characters. Rylen. Amber. Tater. Remy. Friendship, heartache, healing, love, and so much tension. Plus, I had to point a fan at my face for a couple scenes. That's always good.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Unrest and so didn’t have to wait to find out the fate of Amber, Rylen, Remy, Tater and their group. Thank goodness! The story picks up immediately, and just like Unknown the pacing never lets up, and neither does the suspense. I found myself waiting anxiously to see what danger lurked around the next corner for the group, and was so engrossed I read the entire book in one sitting. The romantic tension between Amber and Rylen from book one simmers and sizzles in Unrest, heating up their romantic chemistry to explosive levels. It’s HOT! *fans self* And as the group begin to realize the truth of what’s happening to their world, the bonds between them become even stronger. As scary as the world they’re living in is, I can’t help but want to be a member of their group. I love them so much. Their friendship and relationships are at the very heart of this series.
My emotions were rocked overboard by that ending! They still are! I NEED book three. Yesterday.

Slow-burning furnace-hot romance, action-packed suspense, a kickass heroine and hero, and gut-wrenching emotion, The Unknown Series is now a brand new favorite! Five phenomenal Stars!

*Spoilers for Unknown #1, but the first paragraph is safe to read. *

Unrest was action packed, heart stopping and filled to the brim with emotion! I absolutely loved the second book in this trilogy. And just like the first, sadness and fear permeated throughout parts of the story. It was something that felt impossible to shake off or ignore at times. Especially when there were so many obstacles in their way. But don't worry, there's tons of light too. Friendships, love and laughter were splashed across the pages. It all felt so heartwarming and beautifully real. Unrest definitely had it all and I can't wait to read the final book in this trilogy!
Fear of the unknown threatened to make me cry out, but I strangled it back down. We had to move forward.
We had to survive and fight.

Unrest started off right where Unknown ended, and we found ourselves surrounded with heartache. Without a true moment to grieve those that they had lost, they were on a mission to travel to safety. And to get there, they had to embark on a terrifying journey. With not enough gas, and food supplies dangerously low, they had a lot against then. And if that wasn't enough, there was a stillness and fear that seemed to roll off of the desolate areas they drove through. Every single minute of the day, their safety was on the line, and I was terrified for them.
We sat there, quiet under the gray winter sky of the desert. It made me wonder how many others were out there like us. Lost. Grieving. Looking for survivors.

The ten of them - Amber, Rylen, Remy, Tater, Devin, Sean, Texas Harry, Matt, and NY Josh - became so close. They created a new family unit and I loved how everyone had each other's backs. They cared so strongly for one another and the bond they created seemed unbreakable because of all of the horrors they faced together. But I was beyond nervous and had fear in my heart. Not only because of what they were all up against. But because I was super attached to all of them. And I saw how well that worked out for me becoming attached to Amber's family *sobs*.
My heart thumped rapidly, mixing with the white noise in my mind. Rylen and I were on the cusp of something. Something there would be no coming back from. Things between us would change today, for better or worse.

There were two relationships I loved the most though. First, I loved that we got to see the full scope of Amber and Remy's relationship, she's Amber's bff btw. They told each other their fears and confessed some of their most intimate secrets. Their friendship wasn't always perfect, but it always felt real. And they loved each other just as strongly as any real sisters would. And secondly, of course I have to mention Amber and Rylen. While they still seemed to be dancing around the possibility of something more, I just have to say something happened in this book that had me screaming....I won't tell you if it was a happy scream or one of anguish and pain, but my gosh it was huge. I'm definitely talking about it in my review of the final book.
They’d ripped everything, everything , from me. I wouldn’t let terror and loss kill my spirit, not while there was still breath in my lungs and blood pumping through my heart.
I pressed my hand against the window and stared out at the dark night as one hot tear slid down my cheek, and I made a promise to my family. Remy. Rylen.
“I won’t let it be for nothing.”

There so much about the plot that I can't really talk about, but we did learn more about the War. And the facts surrounding it chilled me to the core. You see, it was creepy, horrifying and fascinating all rolled together. And it made me feel even more overwhelmed with all that they were up against. But thankfully hope, friendship, determination and love flooded the pages. And I loved every single moment of this page turner!

PS There's a tease remark that had me laughing so hard I was crying. Twice. Oh my gosh, it was so great lol!

Describing Unrest in a few words? Rollercoaster of feels. I seriously went through so many stages of emotions during my reading of it. I probably looked like a lunatic as I got mad, sad or extremely happy. Seriously, be warned that you will probably experience various emotions.

Unrest continues when Unknown stopped. The group is grieving their loss and trying to reach a place they hope will bring them some safe haven. Throughout this book, you experience it mostly through Amber's eyes, but you can see how everyone is grieving differently; how they don't voice their reaction the same way and it's so realistic that it will come and get you.

I love how the author just gave us information little by little even if you sort of know what is going on, you don't know everything all at once and I liked that I could make up some theories in my mind and see some of them being thrown away as she gaves us snippet of what's going on.

And I won't lie... Amber and Rylen... God, the nature of their relationship is going to give you so much feels. I think I went through a bunch of them as the book progress, but no matter what, she writes to make sure you stick around and see where it will lead. Both of them have a lot to go through; we can tell that there's a spark between them but both of them are stop by guilt mostly.

Tater and Remy's grieving journey will touch you a lot more. As they both react differently, they will just come and get you. You'll want to be there for them so much and maybe sometimes slap Tater, but that's only for like a second really.

What else can I say... The four friends and their companions will be meeting new people. Some of them are more hard to like, but they have something that made me want to like them because I felt like they were important to this story.

Towards the end of the book, you can to have multiple point of views which I really enjoyed and I hope it will be like this for the third book because it gave us so much more insight for some of these characters.

This book will make you want the third book in your hand right now. You will need to know what's in store for our favourite characters.

Overall, what are you waiting for? Start this series if you haven’t started it yet. It's worth every seconds spent with this book and you will only be asking for more and more and more with each new chapters.

I was giving an advanced copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.

5+ stars!

I DEVOURED this novel after I finished reading UNKNOWN because I couldn't wait to read what happens next in the lives of Amber, Rylen, Remy, Tater, and the rest of the gang. This novel picks up right where UNKNOWN left off--with our beloved characters heartbroken and devastated of all they witnessed in the desert lands of Nevada and desperate to get to the military base in Utah, where the Resistance awaits and their only hope for survival.

Even after all of the heartbreak and turmoil Amber and crew survive in the first novel, their lives are by no means easier in this second book. They face a dangerous and expansive trek through harsh weather and treacherous terrain, fighting for their lives in a world filled with unknown dangers, desperate and scared people, and a faceless enemy.

Even more so than the last, this novel was also filled with so much emotional angst and suffering. Our four MCs are having to deal with the horrific deaths of their families while also navigating their hidden feelings for each other--all while trying to stay alive. I was really grateful for Texas Harry, Josh, Mark, Matt, Big D, and Sean, as their characters succeeded in adding a little levity and lightness to the constant gloom and sorrow that seemed to follow our MCs. Their characters really grew on me, and I found myself laughing along with them and worried about their safety.

I felt so much for Amber and her inner turmoil as well. The deaths of her family, her unrequited feelings for Rylen, her guilt over having those feelings for Rylen after Liv's death, Linette's appearance, trying to be the caretaker for everyone else before herself, LINETTE, and all the other crap she has to deal with in this novel. I sympathize and relate to her on so many levels and see so much of myself in her that I really felt her emotions and distress along with her. Though I will say that she has some damn good moments in this novel too--moments of triumph and moments that make her feel needed and useful and moments that she's been waiting for. I loved it.

Overall, I DEFINITELY recommend this series!!! Wendy has written an amazing sequel that will keep you interested and engaged and screaming for the finale. I cannot wait till UNDONE is released, and I am crossing my fingers and toes for HEA all across the board!

My Rylen hiking through the desert, quiet and serious but with an apparent penchant for dirty talk ;)

This book is a major fast read and its super addictive, Unrest is way better than the first book in the series. The writing style is amazing and the one person POV made the book more thrilling.Amber and Rylen finally got together now i can rest my mind. The book was recommended by a group read as the book of the month. Never taught dystopian could be this amazing i guess it depends on the ransom.

The story continues after Amber's parents were bombed by the DRI and they heard about the camp where humans are, Amber, her brother Tater, best friend Remy, Rylen( the guy she's in love with) and the other guys made it to the relief centre with maximum obstacles on the way, Remy got sick and she almost got shot by some weird guys.

They met other humans at the underground relief which many where military, they were all assigned jobs. The Lieutenant in charge told them what was actually going on, that its an alien invasion, Aliens wants to wipe the Earth's population and make the remaining people slaves. They planned on attacking the aliens in due time. Amber finally told Rylen how she felt and they hooked up, apparently he feels the same way about her.

Just when things started going well, the aliens(baels) attacked them, most of them got away but Remy was stuck in the green house and Tater went to get her but did not make it back to the plane, along with Linette a military, the three of them pretended to be on the side of the aliens and were taken away. Rylen is on the fighter jet with another pilot trying to buy them time to get away, Amber have no idea whether the three most important people in her life are dead or alive while the surviving people made their way to the next bunker she vowed to get vengeance for all the people she has lost.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Review and Blog Tour can be found on *Milky Way of Books*

I was very anxious about thise sequel. It had left me with a broken heart and a romance which seemed too doomed for my reading preferences. But in this one, survival is the main theme. And it should be; since the world has ended noone has time for romance. Amber and Rylen are not the only ones who must deal with their feelings.

But the dystopian factor is stronger and the book explodes with action. I really want to know what can happen in the end and gladly I'll not have to wait for another year in order to read the final book!

4.5 Thrilling Stars!!

“Fear of the unknown threatened to make me cry out, but I strangled it back down. We had to move forward. We had to survive and fight.”

Unrest was everything that I wanted in a second book and then some!!!

Unrest picks up right where Unknown left off. Circumstances are tough and the journey for Amber and her crew is not an easy one. Our beloved characters are trying their hardest to survive, just living one day to the next. And just when things are starting to look bleak, shelter is found. But, the question is, is it safe or is it a set-up? Amber and her crew have no choice but to seek shelter with the unknown and hope for the best…..

Unrest is a wonderful and thrilling addition to the Unknown Series. While a lot of my questions were answered, I was still left with many more. Unrest is full of action and suspense. I was on the edge of my seat and was feverously trying to burn through the pages, all to see what would happen next. And let me tell you, Unrest does not disappoint. While there is a lot of action, this story does kick up the romance and steam factor up a notch, but don’t fret. The romance is just a nice and much needed addition to the story. The story flows incredibly well and still stays focused on our beloved survivors.

Unrest hit the ground running and had me holding my breath right until the very end. And let me just say, that ending…..Well, that ending is going to leave you begging for more and in anticipation for what is going to come next! I for one can not wait to see what is in store for our survivors next and how this story is going to play out.

With Baelese overseeing their reproduction, education, food control, and working conditions, humans would want for nothing. One race. One language. No poverty. Each person a useful cog in the labor wheel.
I’m really impressed with Higgins’ writing, the world building and real characters were wonderful. (You MUST read these books in order!) The suspense and action is realistic and frightening. I was left in the dark as many of the main characters and that was awesome.

We still don’t know what’s happening. Earth has been infiltrated and the human race is running on fumes. People are being executed, they are starving and it’s everyone for themselves.

Rylen still annoyed me in this book. Is he really this clueless? Is he really going to force to her to keep making the first move? This part of the book read like a YA, and I was over all the immature behavior.

It really broke my heart when we heard The aliens are a matriarchal society, and I would have thought they would have made different choices.

I would have liked to see a bit more movement in this story. The first read like a run-away train and this one kinda jogged along. I still really enjoyed reading it and have downloaded the next in the series!

So if you've not read the first in this series (Unknown), then you should get on that now! This series is great! The covers aren't the best but Wendy Higgins self publishes this series so it makes sense. Ignore the covers though, the story inside is in my opinion some of Wendy's best work.

The story is so engaging and scary because it could actually happen. I also love the relationship all the characters have. They also feel real. Also Rylen and Amber are seriously wonderful. I love them both so freaking much! Also Amber is biracial. Her mother is Latina and her father is white. So diversity if you're into that.

Now onto the spoilers because this is the second in the novel and I can't really say more without spoiling the first one. So you have been warned. I swear I didn't think this book would be the glorious first one but it did. I loved the character development. I loved seeing the USA was planning to fight back with the aliens. I just loved that they were planning to fight, even if the aliens seemed to be much better than them. Also they is a lot more of them after all the bombings they did to the world.

I love how we get more Remy and Tater drama, I'm assuming the next book will be spilt into more than one POV judging by the end of the books. I don't know how I feel about that completely. On the one hand, I want to see Tater and Remy take down the aliens from the inside. Hell yeah!

But when I start a series with one POV, I generally like it to stay that way if that makes any sense. Maybe I'm the only one that like. Either way, I don't really care, I just want to read the next one now!

I'm so happy that Rylen and Amber finally got together. I was starting to wonder if it would never happen. The sexual tension between these two was off the charts. It was so well done.

I just can't wait to see where this goes. They had to leave their base so I know things are going to pick up. I'm just so nervous and excited to read the next one. I just hope no one dies. I think my heart would explode. All four of my babies better stay safe!

Together with a group of army men they've befriended they head for their last hope - an army base in Utah where they may or may not find allies waiting. It won't be an easy trek from Nevada to Utah - struggling to find food and fuel to keep their vehicles running, frigid temperatures, potential illnesses, and hostile survivors with guns face them at every turn.

When they reach the army base they're heading for will they find the help and answers they're looking for? Or is it another trap? Can they all work through their grief, put their pasts behind them, and come together? Will Amber ever tell Rylen how she feels? And how will he react if she does tell him?

This book keeps you on the edge of your seat and takes your emotions on a rollercoaster ride. It's a fast-paced read, which for me is always a good thing.

I loved getting to see added character depth - not only from the four "main characters" but from their new friends as well. I thought Wendy Higgins plotted the story well and conveyed the struggles that the group would face perfectly. It makes you think about those little things we take for granted every day and how we would handle being without them if the unimaginable happened.

The only thing I found a little strange was when the group finds out what the DRI really are they initially struggled to believe it to be true. I mean really, at this point with all the destruction they've witnessed do they really think what's going on was caused by some what - terrorist group?

I especially loved Amber and Rylen in this book. And of course Remy and Tater - man I wish they would get together! There are some steamy scenes in this book but they were really great additions to the story, the progression was natural - not just thrown in for the sake of being there.

I have some hunches for the next book and I can't wait to see how this trilogy will end! Overall, I really loved this one, although I did like the first book slightly better.

⇝My Thoughts⇜

The Unknown Series has everything I want in a dystopian romance. Amazing characters, a tenable premise, and sweet angst. Supplemented with some kick-ass action scenes, and stellar writing, and it's damn near perfect. My only issue with Unrest in particular, is I wanted to kick Amber and Rylan's ass; for taking so long to admit things to each other. At least a little bit.

We got a lot of great new characters, both from the end of the last book, as well as at the base where they ended up in this book. There was a point when I was practically shouting at Amber and Rylen to figure their stuff out and get together. I hated the character Linette, even though in the end, she may have done a good thing, in finally helping Amber make her move. When the two of them finally figure it out, it is perfect though. I really liked the base that they lived at, the underground part, as well as how they tunneled through to a nearby hotel so that they all had pretty comfortable living quarters to start with. Finding out just what the aliens had done to the girls and other people with the shots and other things they'd done was heartbreaking in this story, but also helped make things easier for other things to take place.

Wendy Higgins has done it again!! She has given me everything that I could possibly want in a sequel and then some! I loved everything about this book, and wanted to have the third book in my hands as soon as I was done (which yes...that means there's a killer cliffhanger). Everything about this book was perfection and I seriously can't wait to find out what happens next!

Unrest picks up right where the first book, Unknown, left off. Amber and her friends/crew have to take a risk and venture into the unknown to try and find some sort of help/shelter. But when they do, it's not a question of do they go, it's a question of who can they trust there? There is a lot of action and adventure throughout the entire story, but it's nicely balanced with romance and the underlying plot of why everything is happening. Most of our questions are answered in this book, but trust me...you're left with plenty more by the end.

description

Amber was fantastic as the main character once again, and I truly enjoyed her characterization in this story. I thought Wendy Higgins did an excellent job at further developing not only her character, but the others as well. Rylen and Amber though seriously kill me every time. Their relationship is such a roller coaster, but I love every single second of it! They both have gone through a lot though so it's understandable why they feel guilt with their feelings toward each other. Tater and Remy also are undergoing a grieving process in this book, and it was interesting to see how they each handled it. They react so differently, but they also help each other get through things.

Overall, I highly recommend reading this book as soon as you can! In fact, why are you not reading it now?? This entire series is an exhilarating thrill ride with the perfect balance between action, adventure, and romance. You might think you have some things figured out, but trust me...by the end you're head will be spinning with possibilities and you'll want that third book in your hands immediately. Check this out now!

Happy reading :)

Usually sequels never top the first book in a series but this book somehow managed just that!

"They'd ripped everything, everything, from me. I wouldn't let terror and loss kill my spirit, not while there was still breath in my lungs and blood pumping through my heart."

Unrest picks up right where Unknown left off. After horrific events, Amber Tate and her group find themselves searching for a safe place to grieve and a little peace from a fallen world. Their journey is rough and hard on everyone, just surviving from one day to the next.

I loved the camaraderie of all the characters in this book. You get a sense for not just one but all the characters. The romance in this book picks up a little more than in Unknown but still takes a little while for things to heat up.

Like Unknown, Unrest keeps you wanting more! Undone can not come fast enough for me!

"I won't let it be for nothing."

This book was twice as good as the first, with a double dose of chaos. I truly think that if the world ended, this is how it would go down.

Not only did things get a LOT more chaotic in this book, but they also got a lot more heated. I love a good angsty read and goodness, the slow burn between Ry and Amber is fantastic.

I will admit though, I wanted to just knock their heads together a few times. Tow people so in love with each other and yet so completely oblivious to that fact.

The aliens have doubled down on the takeover and things are truly getting dark. With the team on the move in this book, it was hectic and eating to have things unfold.

THAT ENDINGS GUYS.

I also can't wait to read the nest book. The end of the world? Alright, let's do it.

This was a great installment in this fascinating apocalyptic series. I loved the setting of communal life in the hidden bunker, and how they are mounting a resistance. Well written.

There was a section of the book where I was fed up with the romance. They were letting weeks and months slip by without basic communication and the games they played were getting really irritating. I was bugged when people started telling Pepper that if she didn’t make a move fast, the other girl would steal Rylen. I didn’t understand why Pepper had to be the one to open up first and “make a move.” Why couldn’t Rylen man up and be the first to make himself vulnerable? That situation was annoying.

Thankfully, soon after I decided I was sick of the “will-they won’t-they” dragging out like that, they finally came clean with each other and said how they felt. (Which was blatantly obvious with the high tension between them, so it was silly that it took them so long. But whatevs.) It required a cringy drunk scene, which is my least favorite plot device.

The cliffhanger ending is exciting. Chemistry was high, plot was addicting, and I’m starting Book 3 immediately. It promises to be an awesome conclusion.

Content:

Language- plenty of f-words. Mostly from the male military main characters. Plenty of other swears. Some use of God’s name in vain.

Sex- two extremely detailed, very long, explicit sex scenes. In addition, plenty of innuendo, sexual references, and crass language.

Violence- violent and tragic mass deaths are happening across the world. Coming to terms with that. Also, some gruesome scenes but nothing overly gory, imo.

Cover- I love the Kindle cover with the shadow of two faces in the background. But I really don’t like the cheesy paperback cover where it’s a picture of the shirtless guy walking. Gag!

I read this on KU.

How I rated the Series:

Unknown- 5 stars
Unrest - 4 stars
Undone- 3.5 stars

Unrest

‘Unrest’ starts off where ‘Unknown’ ended. The whole book sort of The Host by Stephenie Meyer. The pack trek the backroads on their way to Utah where they find a group that’s basically a resistance group. It’s there that they are all given jobs, shelter, and food. After being on the verge of starvation and grief, Amber and the gang quickly become adapted to life underground.

I will say this, this was so much more romantic than the first book. Ry is probably the most clueless man to ever walk the freaking planet. Besides that, I enjoyed watching the tension grow between Ry and Amber. Unrest delves so much deeper in who is attacking and why. It’s so scary to think about. Wendy brings a new take on alien invasion and to be honest, after we finally learn more about the attacks, I fell a little more in love with the story.

It has my mind racing with so many questions. Most importantly though, how in the world will they win? I need my questions answered. I need more of these group of people who I’ve come to care for. Not just Amber but everyone. Now onto what happens in the next book!

I’ve been waiting for this book ever since I finished the first one and omg, I LOVED every torcherous second of it. This is the ultimate slow-burn romance, but plot wise it’s fast-paced and impossible to put down. I don’t read a lot of apocalyptic books, but I ADORED this one. Don’t get me started on that ending… I NEED MORE. I’ve loved Wendy Higgins ever since the Sweet trilogy and this book just proves that she can write ANYTHING.

Wow, wow, WOW! This book kept me on the edge of my seat from the first page. Wondering if Tater, Remy, Rylen, Amber and group would be caught, who exactly dropped the bombs and would Rylen and Amber ever get together. The story did go with the sci-fi route, but I was okay with it. The ending of the book does end in a cliffhanger and I’m so glad the final book comes out soon.

Solid 4+. Well-crafted and engaging, this series needs to be read in full to get any sense of closure. The first introduced the wide cast of characters, the second builds the depth and complexity of their relationships, and the last resolves the conflict. Living through a pandemic also gives an interesting perspective to human nature during crisis, and I found myself nodding and scoffing throughout. (Posting same review to each book in the series.)

Oh, my goodness gravy. I can’t even with this series!!! This one ended on a ginormous cliffy and I can’t wait to read the last book. At the same time, I’m sad bc...this will be the last book. Still the same nail biter that book one was and still sitting on the edge of my seat good.
