Overview of Responsibilities
To ensure that the mobile health and nutrition team strategy was initially a response to emergencies in areas with low health service coverage and inadequate health services The mobile units essentially work as health posts on wheels, at which pastoralist communities can quickly receive integrated nutritional, health, water and hygiene support without having to travel and leave their children behind. The system ensures that those with serious illnesses, difficult pregnancies or complicated cases of severe acute malnutrition can be referred to a higher health care level. In cases of malnutrition, those without medical complications can be treated as outpatients through the MHNT or health posts
Key responsibilities
§ S/He responsible leading and coordinate the work of the team and manage operational matters (e.g. Supplies, Fuel, DSA, Stationery, etc).
§ S/he will develop the movement plan of the team; compile monthly activity report, monitor supply utilization and request replenishments (quarterly).
§ S/he will also liaise with local authorities, represent the team in meetings and be responsible with all communications of the team.
§ The team members will be rotated/ changed every six months. Rotation of HEWs – 2 months basis. Measure should be taken in case a MH & NT member is not performing the assigned tasks.
§ Ensure continued and improved access to primary basic health and nutrition services among hard to reach pastoralists populations in Afar and Somali especially children and women
§ Strengthened capacity on emergency response as first responders to outbreaks and other public health emergencies
§ Build the capacity among health extension workers to strengthen the mobile outreach primary health care service delivery modality and strategy Increase the linkage and trust with pastoralist communities with government health and nutrition service providers and the health system
§ Improved equity approach and scale up in the national health transformation strategy and plan
§ A team visits 5 days a week on selected service delivery sites, one day to each site and compile its weekly report.
§ The movement plan need to be posted in each of the service delivery sites and the WoHO
§ The team leader is responsible to ensure timely departure and arrival of the team. During site visit days, the team will need to depart timely to the service delivery sites
§ Team leader will inform public health emergency reports (including rumors) to woreda health office and RHB immediately where possible.
§ Monthly meetings will be scheduled on their end of month rest day to review performance, analyze context, and finalize monthly activity report.
§ Only patients medically approved by the MH&NTs will be referred using the MH&NT vehicle, in woredas where there is no ambulance. From site to woreda capital.
Qualification/Experiences and Skills Requirements:
§ Diploma in clinical nursing/Degree from recognized college with 3-4 years professional experiences
§ At least two years of experience working in MHNT and emergencies nutrition management
§ Excellent spoken and written Somali and English languages
§ Good interpersonal and communication skills
§ Through previous employment, proving ability to team lead and coordination MHNT
§ Ability and willingness to travel and work in rural and hard to reach areas
