Fantastic Beasts producer: Why the sequel is better than the first

After that intriguing first photo was released from Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald there is new hope among Harry Potter fans that the second of a planned five movies written by J.K. Rowling will leviosa the prequel franchise to an even more impressive O.W.L. grade.

Executive producer David Heyman says there’s some very good reason for optimism, and gave EW details on how the second film written by Rowling will be rather different than the first.

“We delve deeper into Jo’s wizarding world — we’re in Paris, we’re in London and New York — the world is expanding,” Heyman says. “As you can tell from the image, we’re following quite a few characters. The new film has a very different feel than the first. It’s got a thriller quality. And it’s also a story about love and passion and all its forms — paternal, romantic, political. And it’s just a thrilling and very fun adventure. We took all we’ve learned from one and just expanded that and created a richer, deeper and more thrilling film which I’m excited to be a part of.”

In addition, the producer says of David Yates’ direction, “Cinematically it’s more dynamic. The camera is more alive and much more immersive. It has a more contemporary cinematic approach.”

In The Crimes of Grindelwald Dumbledore (Jude Law) enlists the newly published magizologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) to help him hunt the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) who has escaped and begins a quest to conquer mankind. Nearly all the members of the 2016’s film’s cast are back, including Newt’s American love interest, Tina Goldstein (Katherine Waterston), his muggle buddy, Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler), and even the troubled young wizard Credence (Ezra Miller), whose fate was previously left uncertain.

Previously, Heyman detailed how Law’s younger version of Dumbledore will be different than the original.
