OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the Health Officer position is to provide technical and professional support to assist in planning, implementing and monitoring of AWD response activities. S/he will develop and maintain close working relationship with Government officials responsible for implementation of AWD prevention and control activities including supporting the establishment, strengthening case treatment centres (CTCs) and management of AWD cases as appropriate. This position will also provide AWD case management training, technical and logistic assistance for planning and implementation of active case finding and surveillances, monitoring implementation of AWD prevention and control activates in accordance with guidelines & procedures provided by donor & FMOH of Ethiopia. The Health Officer promotes hygiene and sanitation activities and organize woreda level hygiene and sanitation promotion activities; hand washing events, sanitation campaigns and others as appropriate.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
· Provide technical and logistic assistance and motivate the government counterparts as needed to promote establishment and strengthening CTC and management of AWD cases.
· Work closely with health centre staff, woreda health office staff in organizing CTCs in a way the AWD case management processes are implemented with infection prevention principles and standards of AWD case management
· Plan, organize, and conduct meetings with government officials, professional organizations, hospital staff, CTC staff, community facilitators, non-government organizations, and others to promote understanding of, support for, participation in, and effective implementation of activities related to surveillance of AWD cases.
· Maintain up-to-date data related to AWD control and prevention activities for the area of responsibility and ensure analysis and interpretation of this data for improvement of AWD control and prevention activities in the area.
· Develop and maintain close working relationship with Government officials responsible for AWD prevention and control and surveillance in their designated area.
· Provides support for all trainings, workshops, and meetings conducted at woreda level, which includes preparing training plan in organizing and facilitating events.
· Facilitate the supply and administration of logistical needs for the project implementation
· Ensures effective implementation of the project activities as per the set plan of action, prepare quarterly and annual report as per the donor requirement.
· Conduct training need assessment to identify government line offices knowledge gap and design appropriate training accordingly.
· Provide training, technical and logistic assistance for planning and implementation of National AWD control and prevention guide line, and strengthening coverage for routine surveillance to ensure proper micro planning, implementation & monitoring of AWD response activities in accordance with guidelines & procedures provided by MOH of Ethiopia and donor organization.
· Conduct joint, supportive and facilitative supervision with woreda health office staff on AWD control and prevention activities.
· Supervises project activities and budgets, which includes tracking of project activity.
· Works closely with communities, health facilities and Woreda Health Office to promote hygiene and sanitation activities, and control and prevention of AWD.
· Keeps update with developments in the sector, including best practice examples and ensure ongoing personal development and learning;
· Participates in the documentation and dissemination of lessons learned in available forums.
· Prepares monthly/quarterly progress reports and submits to project team leader;
· Coordinates quarterly review meetings;
A) EDUCATION/TRAINING
· BSc Degree in Nursing, Public Health officer.
B) EXPERIENCE:
· Three years experience in Public Health or in Community Health Work particularly in AWD control and prevention.
