The Chiefs crowd was so loud a ref once threatened it with a penalty if it didn't quiet down

With it being Throwback Thursday and the Chiefs playing at home tonight, it seems like a good time to look back at maybe the greatest moment in NFL fan history: The time Arrowhead Stadium got so freaking loud, the referee threatened to penalize the Chiefs if the crowd didn’t quiet down.

This seriously happened in 1990 when the Broncos played in Kansas City.

Denver is backed up on its own 1-yard-line, Elway is going through his cadence at the line of scrimmage, steps away and looks at the ref, who stops the game and tells the crowd that “any further crowd noise problem” will cost the Chiefs a timeout.

Until the fans in Seattle get threatened with a penalty for being so loud, the Chiefs retain the title for best home crowd in the NFL. Sorry, 12s.
