iPhone X Supply Revised Lower Yet Again as TrueDepth System Still Faces Production Issues

A new report today yet again suggests that customers looking to get an iPhone X this year might face quite the challenge.

Jeff Pu, an analyst with Taipei-based Yuanta Investment Consulting, has cut his forecast of the number of iPhone X devices that will be produced this year from 40 million units to 36 million. It's the second time he has revised down his estimate, which originally totaled 45 million earlier this year.

The underlying reason is that Apple's suppliers are still struggling to perfect manufacturing of the iPhone X's TrueDepth camera and 3D facial recognition system, according to Japan's Nikkei Asian Review. We first heard about the production issues from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo a few weeks ago.

Multiple reports have claimed it has taken more time to assemble the TrueDepth system's so-called "Romeo" module than the "Juliet" module.

The "Romeo" module reportedly includes the dot projector that beams more than 30,000 invisible dots to create a precise depth map of your face, while the "Juliet" module includes the infrared camera that analyzes the pattern. Together, they help power new iPhone X features such as Face ID and Animoji.

Pu maintained his belief that the iPhone X will enter mass production in mid-October and begin to be shipped from China to the first wave of launch countries next week. iPhone X pre-orders begin Friday, October 27, just over two weeks from now. The device officially launches Friday, November 3.

Yeah, sure, Apple wants to sell 5 iPhone X for 1K a pop, instead of 15 million iPhone X for 1K.

That's what I did, but availability at launch wasn't my main concern.
I had a good deal with my carrier, I'm enjoying the power of A11 and the dual camera and next year in October I'll be eligible for an update and will be able to trade in my 8+ for X2 or X plus or whatever.
X has less screen width, smaller keyboard and the notch. No hurry to get it, I'll wait for the plus version

This kind of thing would lead me to not be surprised if the X has a number of issues once released.

From the ridiculous notch, to the fail at the apple event and production issues this device seems half baked in my opinion. That said, I'd never buy the first iteration of any tech device. Let the early adopters be the beta testers.

Why would they do that? Those that didn't want an 8, didn't want an 8. I didn't laugh at anyone buying an 8 -- it's good phone. But I also didn't want one being a minute update to my 7. If I can't get an X close to launch day I'll happily wait until the XI. Neither a big deal nor life changing moment. The X is a status symbol and new toy on the block, but plenty of those around.

So aren't they supposed to be MAKING the iPhone X now, but instead are still perfecting manufacturing of the iPhone X's TrueDepth camera and 3D facial recognition system?

Does that mean the ones they made already (if they have) don't have good TrueDepth cameras?

But isn't that most new iPhones? Lots of parasites that know anything iPhone is clickbait. And what is even better clickbait than bad news?

You do realize the phone is supposed to be in consumers hands in 22 days? They're supposed to manufacture 36M phones in 22 days and they haven't even perfected the TD camera and 3D facial recognition? Seems "clear" to me there will be compromises in the first round of phones.

This sucks if true. I’m going to pre-order at midnight. If I can’t get it within the first week or two i’ll probably cancel the order. I don’t know if i’ll wait 6+ (according to rumors) weeks
