Studio Moross brings song lyrics to life with new prints

The It’s Pop It’s Art print series features visual interpretations of much-loved musical classics, by the likes of Cyndi Lauper, Marvin Gaye and The Clash.

Designers and illustrators including Studio Moross have come together to create a series of prints celebrating famous song lyrics.

The It’s Pop It’s Art series has been organised by music publisher Sony ATV, and features nine, limited edition, silkscreen prints.

The prints are colourful, visual depictions of sing-along classics such as Cyndi Lauper’s Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, The Beatles’ All You Need is Love and Motörhead’s Ace of Spades.

The nine prints make up the first collection of many, which will explore different songs within Sony ATV’s collection.

It’s Pop It’s Art aims to be a physical, tangible reaction against the “increasingly digital” world of music, and “bring a new life” to it, says the company.

Commissioned artists include: Studio Moross, which has previously designed cover art for musicians such as Sam Smith, Wild Beasts and Disclosure; illustrator and graphic designer Jody Barton, who has worked on projects for Florence and the Machine and Beck; and Alex May Hughes, a sign painter and typographer.

Each print has been approved either by the musician, if still alive, or their estate.

Kate Moross, founder at Studio Moross, says of the studio’s print designs: “We kept the designs simple and literal, so that they would feel directly connected to the songs and the themes they conjure in your head.”

Each artwork has a print run of 150 copies, and are available unframed for £150 and framed for £225 each. It’s Pop It’s Art was founded in 2005. For more information, head to the site.

Those are great. Only quibble is, Lauper covered that song, she didn’t write it. Fun ditty though, my daughter loves it.
