Two members of the Navy's elite SEAL Team Six are under investigation in the June death of an Army Green Beret in Mali, U.S. officials say.
Army Staff Sgt. Logan J. Melgar was found dead in his U.S. Embassy housing room in Bamako, Mali on June 4, The New York Times reported.
The 34-year-old veteran's death is being investigated as a homicide after a military medical examiner determined that he died from strangulation.

No one has been charged in Melgar's death, but two Navy SEALS were placed on administrative leave and flown out of Mali. They have not been publicly identified.
Melgar's death is being investigated by the Navy's Criminal Investigative Service after it was transferred to the agency on September 25 by the Army's Criminal Investigation Division who spent months on the case.
'NCIS can confirm we are investigating the death of SSGT Melgar but beyond that, NCIS does not discuss the details of ongoing investigations,' Ed Buice, an NCIS spokesman told the Times.
Melgar had been stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina.

His death was not announced publicly by the Pentagon when he died. The Pentagon is not required to disclose publicly every military fatality that occurs overseas.
Melgar was in Mali as part of small group of U.S. military personnel working in support of the U.S. Embassy to help with training and counterterrorism missions, the Times reported.
The married father-of-one was originally from Lubbock, Texas
The 34-year-old was originally from Lubbock, Texas and enlisted in the Army as an 18X in January 2012.
Melgar started Special Forces training in 2013 and was assigned to the 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) in 2016 following his completion of the Special Forces Qualification and Special Forces Engineer courses.
Melgar, who leaves behind a wife and a young son, conducted two deployments to Afghanistan as an engineer sergeant.
He graduated from Frenship High School in Wolfforth in 2001, according to the Frenship ISD's website.
He was honored earlier this month during the school's homecoming football game.
'Staff Sgt. Melgar did what most only dream of and excelled at every turn! His life was epic!', a Melgar family representative said in a statement from the school.
'He is missed dearly every single day, but his legacy lives on through his family and his son Braxton.'
The announcement of his death comes after four American soldiers were killed during an ambush in neighboring Niger earlier this month.
