In the immediate aftermath of the bicycle crash that left him with a fractured wrist and elbow and two cracked ribs, Ed Sheeran picked himself up and cycled home, unaware that anything had actually gone wrong.

Speaking to The Sun at last night's Q Awards, with visible bandages on his right hand and left arm, Sheeran revealed: "I got up and cycled home, then went to bed and woke up in the morning in a lot of pain and then went to hospital. I didn't even know anything was broken until the next morning."

He also confirmed that he wouldn't be drinking at the awards bash, his doctors having told him that alcohol might delay the recovery process, and denied reports that the bicycle crash involved a car. He instead confirmed that he had merely fallen off his own bike.

Sheeran was forced to delay the Asia leg of his tour as a result of his injuries, having an assistant type an Instagram message yesterday that said: "A visit to my doctors confirmed fractures in my right wrist and left elbow that will leave me unable to perform live concerts for the immediate future.

"Sadly, this means that the following shows will not be able to go ahead as planned: Taipei, Osaka, Seoul, Tokyo and Hong Kong. I'm waiting to see how the healing progresses before we have to decide on shows beyond that.

"PS - Ed isn't typing this as he has both arms casted/bandaged."

It wasn't all bad news. Sheeran walked away from the Q Magazine bash with one award, for Best Act in the World Today.

He dedicated the prize to his PR team, and apologised for being "a bit of a cripple today."
