Objective: The Nutrition & Behavioral Change and Communication (BCC) specialist will work with the Pastoralists’ Areas Resilience Improvement through Market Expansion (PRIME) program team to oversee the overall implementation of the PRIME Nutrition & BCC strategy and intervention in Afar to effectively influence the nutrition & behavior change at the individual and community level through social marketing, as well as small group and inter personal communication activities.
S/he will oversee and manage a wide variety of interventions from edutainment (such as radio serialized dramas, comics) to small group and interpersonal communications in order to increase demand for and utilization of nutritious food.
S/he will work closely and in close collaboration with all intermediate result teams including sub grantees, the Nutrition and BCC technical Advisors as well as Project Manager.
Responsibilities and Tasks:
Planning & implementation
§ Implement Nutrition & BCC intervention through suggestion and advice from designated audience groups, & technical advisors.
technical support and assistance
§ Develops Nutrition & BCC materials for community education.
§ Assist sub grantees in the planning and implementation of Nutrition & BCC strategy.
§ Ensure and support teams and sub grantees to implement in line with the designed Nutrition & BCC strategy.
§ Prepares Nutrition & BCC protocols and guidelines for project staff and community volunteers.
§ Provides technical supports to the team and sub grantee in implementing the various Nutrition & BCC strategies designed and developed.
Learning and research
§ Keeps up to date with developments in the sector, including best practice examples in-country and internationally, and ensure ongoing personal development and learning.
§ Ensures the Nutrition & behavioral change communication within the organization, with partners and other stakeholders.
Networking and Coordination (
§ Works closely with experts from Health Institution, other partners and project staff to develop and implement targeted Nutrition & BCC strategy for the project.
Monitoring, Evaluation and reporting
§ Facilitate regular ongoing supervision together the with government counterparts.
§ Monitors and evaluates the process and outcome of the Nutrition & BCC interventions.
§ Establishes and maintain detailed programmatic records and provides quality reports.
Qualifications (Know How)
A) Education/Training
BA/BSc degree in Nutrition, Food Science, Public Health, Medical Anthropology, Communication, and any other related fields or equivalent combination of education and work experience
B) Experience
· Five to Seven years proven technical experience in implementing Nutrition & BCC strategy.
· Solid back ground on research methods and good writing skills.
