Coughing After Vaping

Hello Guys,

I'm vaping for more than 2 months now and I enjoyed it a lot.

As a starter, I face some problems/difficulties and solve it with time and tuning the mod setting time to time. Now, having another problem, which I can't identify the reason.

After around 10 minutes of vaping I start coughing. It stops, if I drink a few sips of water, though its new to me. And, of course, it's giving me tension. What to do now?

My current e-juice spec: VG 80, PG 20, Nic 6mg
Using Vaporesso Target Pro and vaping on 27.5W (Coil .5)

Thanks in advance.

My smart-... side is inclined to suggest you limit your vape sessions to 9 minutes, but I know it's frustrating to have problems with something that's always worked so far.

Have you changed anything at all since this started? Your juice flavour, nicotine level or PG/VG ratio, or your settings?

Too much VG or certain flavours make me cough, as does DTL. Too much PG or nicotine makes others cough.

The only other thing I can think of is that you might be coming down with something or be a tiny bit congested. I have mild asthma, and the first sign of a flare-up can be coughing or a tickle when I vape. Everything else seems normal, but settings and juices I'm normally fine with become irritating.

I changed my coil a few days back and the coughing started. But, It was the same coil with same ohm I was using before. So, I don't think, if there is any problem with the coil.

Do you think, I need to change it again?

I wouldn't really expect replacing a coil with another of the same type to cause problems, although I suppose it's possible that the new coil has machine oil or some other contaminant on it. If it started with the new coil, I suppose it would be best to change it just to see. Was the coil the first out of a new package, or had you used the pack before?

An interesting article that may give you some ideas ... Vaping & Coughing: What Every Vaper Needs To Know
There are many other articles ... vape cough - Google Search

From a personal point of view, sub-ohm / temp control vaping was just too harsh for me. Once I switched totally over to higher ohm coils (1.8ohm) and lower wattage (7.4-9.6W) for a cooler vape, I've enjoyed vape MUCH more. Also, I've found that drip tips can even make a mostly minor difference. Smaller bore tips may tend to focus the inhale on the tip of the tongue but also a small targeted area on the back of the throat. I'm happier with wider bore tips that don't narrowly focus the inhale. But those are just personal preferences and there are many factors why you might cough while vaping ... from normal biological recovery following smoking cessation to equipment, juice, inhale/exhale technique etc etc.

Hi Sabbir and good choice on the Target Pro. I've had mine for about 3 weeks now and really like it. I sometimes have the same problem. I use 30-34W normally and make satisfactory clouds at that setting. I also have the same problem with my T-Priv at times. I usually just back off the power or stop vaping for a while.

The first thing I did with the Target Pro was replace that little metal drip tip with a larger plastic tip with a larger opening. I've also noticed that if I'm chain vaping for several minutes the tank gets really hot which might be causing a harsher hit.

I used to work on CAT Scanners and if I installed a new part and started getting errors, I would replace the new part with the one I took out or a new part before I did anything else. The sad fact is that manufacturing processes and quality control still allow defective parts to make it to customers. The parts I used generally cost thousands of dollars and I still got bad parts. If your coughing started when you replaced the coil and nothing else has changed, change the coil again and see if that takes care of the problem. If your coughing stops, great. If not, you've at least eliminated one possibility and can move on to the next possible cause.

Thanks for your guidance. I'm using the coil for 3 days and feeling sorry for it. Though, I'll change it today. Let's see.

BTW, the coughing is increasing and getting metal taste.

If you're getting a metallic taste, it's possible you got a coil that wasn't properly cleaned. Change it (some people rinse their coils or even soak them, if they are known offenders for this issue). You will at least be able to eliminate that variable.... Also, clean your tank thoroughly, anything on the coil will have leached into the tank, possibly....

I can't do any PG, I have an inhaled sensitivity. I WOULD say, since you've been vaping that long, perhaps a sensitivity to a flavor and/or an ingredient would be unlikely, but when I was dual using and still smoking, I didn't cough like I did when I switched over fully to vaping. Even though you've been smoke free some time, I am a believer that it's possible for sensitivities to not show up fully for a while... I always coughed a BIT when dual using with PG, but nothing like when I switched over to vaping fully, and it really made a difference (for me), but everyone's different. I mean, detoxing from cigs is a process and a lot of things change along the way. I'm thinking it's far more likely that it's your coil, honestly, but you just never know. If the coughing continues, try experimenting with your ratios of PG/VG and maybe even some different flavors. Or, you may have hit the "cough" phase of detoxing from tar, in which case inhalation just may be a bit more "cough-like" for a while. If all else fails, consult a physician, some people (I know this sounds crazy, but...) like myself, have asthma and allergy sx that are "masked" by smoking and reappear when vaping. I was a bit wheezy as I rid myself of tobacco, but it's all settled down, I'm using 0 inhalers at this point. There are a few flavors I cannot vape (vanillas being one of them) as they cause me throat irritation, but for the most part when I eliminated PG, my vaping experience changed... Best of luck.

I'd start with the coil, not all of the above, first though.

Since idk if your issue is truely solved i'll add this : Whenever you're vaping have water at your side (always) if you really vape non stop for 10 mins you probably cough from dehydration, i always take a few sips of whatever liquid i have after about 2-3 vapes, yes i do cough sometimes too but mostly because sometimes i take in too much vapor and i end up chocking. All around unless you have an allergy to pg or vg it looks normal to me (although i don't vape continuously for 10 mins)

NB: imho it's not your coil though, could be your lung started to clean themselves and trying to evacuate the gunk and tar that you accumulated over the years, but yeah unless the coil tastes burnt or something i doubt that's the issue.

There's still cotton in those coils. I'm not sure if you can rinse and reuse like regular coils, and it looks like they come in a wide range of metals, as well... This is the Ccell right? I think there is a very long thread on them on here that you might search for, and I'm pretty sure you'll get all your questions answered and then some. I haven't used these coils, so I am little help to you :)

Is it possible that, I kept my mod in my pocket and the coil burnt somehow?
This doesn't seem likely. Even if you jammed it in your pocket with other stuff to push the power button the mod has an 8 second auto shut off. If something in your pocket managed to hit the + button to run the watts way up and then hit your power trigger you would likely hear it popping like crazy, but it would still shut off after 8 seconds.

I've had the same issue with coughing!!!
I believe it's important to drink plenty while vaping.
More so if I chain vape, (which I often do.)
For me, it's coffee.
