Who knew cyclocross now included stunts that would make even top showmen in the sport look inexperienced?

At a Chicago Cross Cup event this weekend, cyclocross legend Sven Nys went above and beyond—right up the side of a staircase after bunny hopping a barrier.

You can check out the stunt in the following video, courtesy of Chicago cyclist Peg Keiner via Twitter, that also captures the crowd's delighted reaction:

Before you feel too bad about your own skills, consider this: Technically, Nys should be disqualified from the race, seeing as he didn't nail the trick on the first attempt and actually ran back down the stairs to try it again. On the second run, he perfected it, bunny hop and all.

A legend in the sport—he goes by the nickname “The Cannibal from Baal”—Nys continues to wow cyclocross fans, even two years after retiring. The Belgian has won virtually every race there is to win, including two UCI World Championships. His most recent win came in 2013, at age 37, in Louisville, Kentucky. (Reach your own cycling milestones with help from our own Cyclist's Bucket List.)

Nys now spends his time racing for fun at events like the Singlespeed World Championships, where last year he refused to take the win in order to avoid the mandatory post-race tattoo, and working with the Telenet-Fidea team, mentoring young riders who aspire to be just like him.

He'll likely make appearances—but not race—at the upcoming World Cup events in Iowa and Wisconsin. It should be fun to watch him help the younger cyclists pre-ride the course and plan their routes. (Maybe he'll throw in a crazy stair set or two.)
