Adam Brody once auditioned for Dawson's Creek

No, not to play Pacey

Adam Brody may have broken out on The O.C., but the actor previously had his sights set on another iconic teen soap: Dawson’s Creek.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Brody revealed that he once auditioned for the WB series. “I read with Scott Speedman and I didn’t get it,” he said Monday. “It was later on. That was [one of] my first [auditions] — it felt like, ‘Whoa, this is a real TV show.’” Brody also “insists,” per ET, that he did not go out for the role of Pacey, which was ultimately played by Joshua Jackson. (So get going with the process of elimination, Capesiders.)

In the same interview, Brody listed other projects he auditioned for before landing The O.C., including Blue’s Clues and “maybe” Power Rangers. He said of the former, “To be the dude [Steve] — I would have killed for that role when I was 19, 20. I remember going, ‘This would be an alright life. This dog and me on this children’s show.’”

Brody starred on all four seasons of The O.C. as Seth, the delightfully awkward, comic-book-loving foster brother of Ryan (Ben McKenzie) who quickly emerged as a fan favorite. He recently starred in the film Sleeping With Other People and now appears in the Crackle series StartUp, opposite Martin Freeman and Ron Perlman. Season 2 premieres Thursday.
