ICYMI: Bernie Sanders To Visit Somerville

The 2016 presidential candidate will be in town to stump for progressive candidates in Somerville and Cambridge.

SOMERVILLE, MA – U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders will visit Somerville on Monday to rally in support of progressive candidates running for City Council, School Board and the Board of Aldermen in Somerville and Cambridge. Sanders, an Independent who ran on a platform that included single-payer health care and eliminating tuition at public universities, will headline an event on Monday, Oct. 23 at music venue ONCE. He plans to highlight several of the 60 candidates backed by progressive activist group Our Revolution, which has chapters in Somerville and Cambridge, ahead of the cities' municipal elections Nov. 7.

"Local Our Revolution groups in Somerville and Cambridge have been organizing for months to continue the political revolution we started with the Sanders' campaign," union organizer and Our Revolution Somerville member Rand Wilson said in a statement. "The candidates – both incumbents and challengers – have embraced the political transformation needed to fix our broken political system and our rigged economy. With new voices and new perspectives, we are asking our municipal governments to lead the way by improving life for working people and stemming the tide of gross inequality."

Our Revolution has endorsed the following candidates in Somerville and Cambridge:
