6 Secrets People Have Already Found in 'Destiny 2'

Destiny 2 is a dense game. It might not seem like it at first, seeing as the skin is a fairly straightforward, impeccably executed sci-fi shooter. But beneath the surface of this franchise has always been a morass of exploits, secrets and Easter Eggs. It's early yet in the new game, and there are no doubt many more things either already lurking beneath the code or yet to arrive. But for people looking to see some of the little strange things hidden in the game, here are a few things to get you started:

Ghost looks at lore: The world of the Destiny franchise is steeped in lore, with ancient stories and backgrounds hidden behind every enemy and every weapon in the game. The first game hid all this stuff behind Grimoire cards accessed through the website, but Destiny 2 has given you the option of allowing your ghost to scan interesting items for a bit more information in the world If you see the ghost icon beep n the top right corner of the screen. But the items can be hard to find, especially because they often show up in the middle of heated firefights. Here's a little trick for finding it more easily, however. When you see the icon, press the button that brings your ghost up. The ghost will look in the direction of the item, so just head over and see what looks cool.

How To Glow At The Farm: Destiny's social spaces often have strange little features in them, and Destiny 2's farm is no exception. You start this by running on top of the waterwheel and then navigating a series of platforming challenges that take you across the rooftops of the farm, down to the firepit, and then all over the rest of the area. Doing all of this gives you a special boost that causes you to both glow and jump higher, both of which are some major goals in my life. Both disappear when you leave the Farm, so this is really just here for the entertainment value. Watch the video below for explicit, step-by-step instructions.

Traveller Ball: The Farm isn't the only public space with some hidden secrets in the game. There's also a way to summon a big ball with the TRaveller Emblem in the Tower, though it's not easy. You've got to start with the purple ball that's already in the Tower, kicking it into a circular pad in the main area. After that you get green, black and blue balls, in that order, all with their own special targets. I'd try to explain them all here, but it's awfully hard in text: you'll be better off watching the YouTube video below. Once you do all of that, you get a special giant Traveller ball that you'll probably lose in seconds. It won't have any impact on your ability to decimate the legions of the Darkness at all, but we do all need to unwind.

The Floor is Lava: The Tower also has its own variant on the platforming challenge found at the farm, albeit one with a few fewer steps. It's a variant of the classic "Floor is Lava." You've basically got to traverse a steep slope in the Tower and then make it all the way over to the other side of the area without once touching the floor. It's harder than it seems, because there's a whole lot of floor. But it's certainly doable, and doing so gives you a similar boost to the one you get at the Farm. And as with the Farm, it disappears as soon as you leave the area. Check the video below.

Heroic Events: Public events are one of the most useful things in Destiny 2, allowing you to farm engrams and tokens with surprising speed and blast up in power level with the loot you find. Every public event, however, also has a way to turn it into an heroic event, greatly increasing your chances at high-level loot by way of an extra challenge added on towards the end. For a full list on how to turn any given public event into an heroic event, check Paul Tassi's guide here.

Sweeper Bot: This isn't a secret so much as an Easter Egg, but it's hard to avoid mentioning it here. Sweeper Bot was one of the most endearing characters in the original Destiny, endlessly sweeping the same little corner of a Tower hallway for what we presume are centuries. Apparently, even a massive Cabal attack on that particular hallway was enough to stop him, because he continues sweeping his one little spot even among fire and destruction, doing its job. Bless you, sweeper bot. Keep an eye for it towards the beginning of the first mission. Bless you, Sweeper Bot.
