Report: WWE sends The Young Bucks a cease and desist over use of ‘Too Sweet’

Young Bucks Merch on Twitter

It appears WWE didn’t find The Bullet Club’s “invasion” of Raw that funny.

Pro Wrestling Sheet is reporting the company sent a cease and desist letter to The Young Bucks over the “Too Sweet” hand gesture. Matt and Nick Jackson use The Kliq’s famous greeting in a variety of ways throughout their act in New Japan and Ring of Honor (ROH). The legal document demands they stop using it or any other WWE intellectual property in the ring and on merchandise. Additionally, they want The Bucks agreement in writing to not use any other company IP in the future.

Ryan Satin’s sources tell him the Jacksons have contacted their lawyers and are deciding how best to proceed. It’s unknown if they can or will fight the cease and desist.

This is not the first time The Bucks and Bullet Club have butted legal heads with WWE on their D-X and nWo-inspired gimmick. Matt and Nick have been talking jokingly on their Being The Elite YouTube series about how the company forbids them from using the “Suck It” crotch chops Triple H, Shawn Michaels, the New Age Outlaws and others made popular in The Attitude Era. It was one of the things they said they were at Raw this past Monday (Sept. 25) to address.

While we can’t know for sure if this is a direct response to the “invasion”, which drew a lot of attention on social media and in the Being The Elite episode released the next day - the timing sure seems like more than coincidence. WWE moved to trademark the “Too Sweet” sign as far back as March of 2015. Perhaps they just got clearance to take action on the claim, or perhaps they didn’t like Cody Rhodes’ jokes about papering shows and WWE champ Jinder Mahal, or Hangman Page wanting to plant a flag in The Game’s posterior.

Stay tuned. We certainly haven’t heard the last of this, either in court or in whatever way The Bucks figure out to reference and monetize it in their act.
