Overview
Honda didn't invent the minivan, but it wasted little time nailing the formula with the Odyssey. Now in its third decade of production, the Odyssey's reputation for providing worry-free transport for up to eight passengers and their stuff remains rock solid. A proven, V-6 engine and 10-speed automatic transmission deliver faithful performance with class-competitive efficiency, while impressive—for a minivan—ride and handling inspire confidence and relay a feeling of solid design and build quality. While it can feel a little barren inside compared to the latest iterations of the Toyota Sienna, Chrysler Pacifica, and Kia Carnival, the Odyssey's tech quotient has been ratcheted up a notch for 2025, and now includes a standard rear-seat entertainment system. There's also a cabin camera and PA system that lets front-row occupants get all 1984 on the kids in back. The Odyssey's multi-adjustable Magic Slide seat system allows you to position the second-row seats in a manner that'll help keep the peace on long family trips, but the seats don't fold entirely flat—although the third row does. As one of our favorites in its segment, the Honda Odyssey has earned a spot on our Editors' Choice list for 2025.
Where This Vehicle Ranks
#5 in Best MinivansWhat's New for 2025?
Plenty. Front and rear ends get a fresh look with a new grille, larger blacked-out surrounds for the foglamps, and a new rear bumper design. Look closely, and Honda/Acura enthusiasts may notice that the vertical rear bumper reflectors are pinched from the now out-of-production Acura NSX supercar. New wheel designs are on tap for every trim, including 19-inchers for the top-tier Elite. Two new colors, Solar Silver Metallic and Smoke Blue Pearl round out the exterior updates. Tech gets updated with a new, standard, 7-inch digital instrument display, 9-inch infotainment touchscreen, and an all-new, larger, 12.8-inch screen on rear-passenger entertainment duty.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
The price of the 2025 Honda Odyssey starts at $43,315 and goes up to $52,275 depending on the trim and options.
Honda discontinued the former base EX trim for 2025, trimming the Odyssey lineup from five to four. Little matter, as the EX-L has long been our choice for the best value, as it includes heated leather seats, wireless charging, and a power-operated rear liftgate—basically all the family-friendly features you need without the fluff. Midlife crisis types looking to keep their Zaddy vibe alive can step up to the Sport-L trim (formerly just Sport without the L) that does the blackout thing with Black 19-inch wheels and a dose of gloss black trim for the grille, headlamps, door mirrors, taillamps and more.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The 2025 Odyssey returns with Honda's 3.5-liter V-6 making 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. Modest numbers for a 4,500-pound hauler, but Honda engineers tuned the ten-speed automatic to provide the best reflexes. The result is a fleet-footed, efficient, and polished sweetheart that drives better than a minivan should; rightfully so, it remains the best-driving entry in the segment. That said, we wouldn't mind a bit more feedback from the light yet direct steering, but that's true of most modern family vehicles. Every Odyssey we've tested delivered a comfortable ride, but we felt the 18-inch wheels fitted to an EX-L trim we tested gave us more isolation from bad pavement than the 19-inchers on the top Elite trim.
0-60-MPH Times
The 2025 Odyssey we tested hit the 60-mph mark in 6.4 seconds. That makes it the second-quickest minivan behind the electric VW ID.Buzz.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
The Odyssey is rated at 19 mpg city and 28 mpg highway, according to the EPA. In our real-world highway testing, our test vehicle matched its EPA estimate, delivering 28 mpg. For comparison, our long-term Pacifica managed 33 mpg. For more information about the Odyssey's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The Odyssey has a lot of what parental units need. A quiet cabin helps keep things calm, the available in-cabin camera and PA system help maintain parental control from the front seats, and the household power outlets and HDMI interface help to keep the young ones' entertainment options open. The Odyssey's second and third rows are among the roomiest in the class. The Magic Slide seats in the second-row are far more comfortable than the Pacifica's Stow-and-Go second-row seats, and the Honda's chairs can slide both side-to-side and fore-and-aft, allowing for multiple configurations that keep the peace when sibling rivalries escalate. The price for that comfort is a bit less practicality and ultimate cargo space. Each Magic Seat weighs 68 pounds, making removal a workout, and the sliding tracks on the floor create small obstacles for loading cargo. When we removed the Magic Seats and stowed the third row in our Odyssey tester, we were able to fit one fewer carry-on suitcase than we could in the Pacifica with its seats stashed into the floor.
Infotainment and Connectivity
All 2025 Odysseys get a standard 9.0-inch color infotainment touchscreen (previously 8.0-inch) with a claimed faster processor in a long-overdue update. Wireless charging is standard, as is wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Honda knows that keeping the passengers in back happy and occupied is priority one, so it upgraded the rear seat entertainment with a new 12.8-inch hi-res screen and relocated the HDMI port to the inside of the console, which also doubles as storage for streaming devices. There are also more USB-VC ports throughout the cabin.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
Overall Safety Rating (NHTSA)
Honda Sensing is a suite of driver-assistance technology that comes standard on all Odyssey models. It includes features such as blind-spot warning, forward collision warning, and traffic sign recognition. For more information about the Odyssey's crash test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include:
- Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection
- Standard lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist
- Standard adaptive cruise control
Warranty and Maintenance Coverage
Honda's standard warranty package on the Odyssey mirrors that of most of its rivals, with nothing that stands out from the competition. The Kia Carnival is the warranty winner here, with a 10-year policy for its powertrain and a limited warranty that lasts two years longer than any of its rivals.
- Limited warranty covers three years or 36,000 miles
- Powertrain warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles
- Complimentary scheduled maintenance is covered for one year or 12,000 miles
