Cops kill 3 suspected kidnappers, rescue Indian national

Police killed three suspected kidnappers in an encounter during a rescue operation in Biñan, Laguna on Wednesday.

Senior Superintendent Glenn Dumlao, Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group director, said operatives rescued the suspects' kidnap victim, Indian national Anial Kumar Sohal following the encounter.

Sohal was kidnapped on Aug. 13, 2 p.m., in Biñan, Laguna.

The suspects were identified as Inderjit Singh/Manjit Singh, alias Goldy, an Indian national; an unidentified male Indian national; and Wilbert Ong, Filipino.

Dumlao said Sohal's kidnappers had asked for a P20-million ransom.

He said the clash between the operatives and the kidnappers took place as the victim's relative, Sanile Sohal, was about to deliver an initial ransom payment of P935,000 near Southwoods tollgate in Barangay San Francisco around 1:40 p.m.

The operatives pounced on the kidnappers after identifying their vehicle, a blue Toyota Corolla with license plate number UMA 548.

The victim will be brought to the AKG headquarters for debriefing and documentation. — ALG/KVD/RSJ, GMA News
