Abstract: Objective To compare the effect and prognosis of conventional open surgery and laparoscopic surgery in the treatment for colon cancer. Method 92 patients with colon cancer that were treated with laparotomy (n=46) or laparo-scopic surgery (n=46) were retrospectively analyzed, of which the intraoperative, postoperative and prognosis-related measures were statistically analyzed. Result The incision length, intraoperative blood loss of the laparoscopic surgery group were significantly shorter and lower than the laparotomy group, while longer operative time was observed in the laparoscopic surgery group (P<0.001);the recovery time of body temperature, feeding time and hospital stay were signifi-cantly reduced in laparoscopic surgery group compared with laparotomy group (P<0.001). The incidence of postoperative complications was lower after laparoscopic surgery compared with laparotomy (P<0.05);though the 1-year local recur-rence rate and distant metastasis rate were similar between the two groups (P>0.05). Conclusion Compared with conven-tional laparotomy, the laparoscopic surgery is superior with less intraoperative blood loss, minimal incision and less post-operative complications, with shorter recovery time and better prognosis, which is worth of clinical application.
