Abstract: Objective To investigate the relationship between serum hypoxia-inducible factor-1α(HIF-1α), intercellu-lar adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) and malignant tumor in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Method 50 cases of patients with active RA were enrolled into RA group, 25 cases of patients with RA complicated with malignant tumor were enrolled into RA complicated with malignant tumor group, and 50 cases of healthy subjects were enrolled into healthy control group. The levels of serum HIF-1α, ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 of the three groups were measured by ELISA. The rheumatoid factor (RF), anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (anti-CCP) and DAS28 score in RA group and RA complicated with malignant tumor group were recorded. The diagnostic value of the levels of serum HIF-1α, ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 in RA diseases complicated with malignant tumor was analyzed by sub-ject specificity curve (ROC). Result The levels of serum HIF-1α, ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 in patients with RA complicat-ed with malignant tumor group were significantly higher than those in RA group and healthy control group (P<0.05), while the levels of serum HIF-1α, ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 in RA group were higher than those in healthy control group (P<0.05). The level of RF/anti-CCP and DAS28 score in RA complicated with malignant tumor group were significantly higher than those in RA group (P<0.01). Analysis results got by ROC curve showed that, the area under the curve of HIF-1α, ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 was 0.792, 0.785 and 0.752, respectively. Conclusion The expression of serum HIF-1α, ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 in RA patients is closely related to the occurrence of malignant tumor, and can be used as early di-agnostic indicators for RA diseases complicated with malignant tumor.
