Once again I used these guys and they did amazing. Morning of move I'm at the new place waiting on the delivery of a bed, they set it up and boom! I woke up about four hours later and the guys had legit moved me in. I never heard a peep and they put furniture in my bedroom where I slept. Yo, go with these guys!

Three sleepless nights of packing and this crew had us in our new place within two hours! It was smooth sailing from the moment they walked in. They took away the stress. Honey! I'm home! Thanks guys!!

Great company! I researched almost 20 different companies before closing Devon and I'm so happy I went with them.
I contacted Frank at Devon one week before a last minute out of state move I was making from Chicago to Philadelphia. He gave me a very reasonable quote and seemed like a no-BS kind of guy. I appreciated his transparency from the beginning.
The guys who do the actually moving were fast, efficient and just great at what they do!
Moving is so stressful and this company made it an extremely smooth experience.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Erica M.Chicago, IL61301Dec 6, 2021
After seeing Devon Moving in action when they helped a friend of mine move I knew I wanted to hire them for our upcoming move. Their team is quick, efficient and careful.
When it came to communication and professionalism, they were awful. They made an already stressful event much more so.
First, they said they could help us on the date we requested, a Saturday Then we confirmed whether they had the size truck we needed (we were moving items from a 2 bedroom apartment and a small storage unit)they said they couldn't. Then they said either Friday or Saturday. We had to chase them down to confirm they could help us and how to pay them.
Day of- team shows up 2.5 hours late (they did call to say they would be late) with the wrong sized truck. Apparently the larger truck had a flat but we wasted 30 minutes trying to figure out why they came with a 16ft truck instead. We agreed that they would move the apartment that day and the contents of the storage unit the following day. We understood that things happen and the team loaded up the 16 ft truck with the items from our apartment- the truck was extremely full. Some of them were complaining about the amount of work to do which I thought was interesting since they get paid by the hour.
When the team was done unloading at our new house- they said we could pay cash or quickpay. I was irritated that those were our only options since their website says they accept all major credit cards but I was also exhausted and wanted to start unpacking boxes. I typed in the phone number in quickpay and showed it to the person from Devon moving who gave it to me. I asked- is this the right account? They said yes so I hit send. We agreed to meet at the storage unit at 9 the next day. Later, they texted saying 11 am.
The following day, they let us know they were running late and showed up to the storage unit at 1:00. When I opened the unit, they got mad saying the items could have fit in the 16ft truck along with all the contents of our apartment the day before. I didn't see how that was possible given how full the truck had been. Even if it did all fit, it would not have arrived in good condition.
Only when the team was finished loading the truck did they inform me that he didn't get my quickpay the day before. I told him what number I sent it to and he told me that wasn't the right one. When I told him I confirmed the number with his employee he said it was my fault for not calling him directly. I reminded him that we repeatedly asked him for information on how to pay prior to moving day and he gave us no info.
No apologies whatsoever for all the back and forth with dates and times, for not having the right truck, and for the fact that his employee gave me the wrong phone number for the payment.
Apparently we really inconvenienced Devon by hiring them for our move. Next time, I'll be sure to choose a company that has actual customer service.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Christina B.Cleveland, OH2224691506Jul 5, 2021
Everything went so smoothly with our move! Frank is great at communicating. A few days before the move he came by to check what we're moving to ensure we got the right size truck. The movers arrived 15 minutes early, went over everything with us, and they started moving us right away. These guys are fast and very efficient. Everything was moved in perfect condition. I found the pricing to be very reasonable. Highly recommend!

Very professional movers. Arrived on time, were very careful with our furniture and boxes, were willing to go the extra mile to make things go smoothly. Would definitely recommend them and will certainly use them again.

A+ moving service!! I had an interstate move during the COVID-19 pandemic, and Devon Moving Company made it a worry-free experience!
I contacted the company ~1 month prior to my move and chose it due to good reviews on Yelp/Google as well as its unbeatable pricing! I spoke to over 15 moving companies and no other company responded as quickly or had as great of a deal as Devon Moving Company! They also called me one week prior to the move as well as the morning of the move to confirm all the details.
On the day of the move, they sent 2 movers for our 1bed 1bath apartment. I have to really applaud their dedication to their work! They arrived on time immediately got down to business. They carefully wrapped up all of our furnitures and disassembled the larger ones. When it came time to unload, they also reassembled everything perfectly! I cannot emphasize enough how great and efficient they were!! They also had a mask on the whole time!!!
Thank you Devon Moving Company for sending such an amazing crew!! We are thoroughly satisfied with our moving experience! :)Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kelly K.New York, NY081Aug 12, 2021
I called into get a quote and the guy that answered was so rude. Didn't even ask what services I was looking for. After leading the conversation due to his poor customer service skills he asked which day I needed to move, I told him and he just answered "no" and hung up. Safe to say I will not be recommending/using them.

This is my second or third move with them. They were extremely efficient and professional. I have used several moving companies in Chicago. Devon moving is reasonably priced, straightforward, and have tremendous customer service.
This time around they quoted me 2 guys at $80 per hour with a one time $80 travel fee. 2 hour minimum. I had estimated about 3 hours to move a one bedroom apartment from Wicker Park to Oak Park. They arrived promptly at 9am, loaded the truck up in an hour, and was done unloading everything at final destination by 11.30am. Woooooo!!!!!
There are extra charges for wardrobe boxes, tape, additional boxes, and the total cost was $317 which was a steal in my opinion. I misheard them and thought it was $370 and I paid them with cash. Later, I got a callback from the driver/move team saying that I had overpaid them. Frank sent me back the money via Zelle. I am truly appreciative of their honesty and professionalism. I would use Devon moving anytime I have to move again (hopefully not in a while), but I would also recommend them in a heartbeat.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0May 2, 2012Previous reviewMy first ever experience hiring movers and they were way beyond my expectation.
First of all, we had a difficult move. Two apartments combined into one. On the 3rd floor of an old walkup home, with no elevators and a narrow staircase.
Initially it was only one move, and I had already shopped around several different companies. Most of them quoted me 2 or 3 men with a 12-16ft truck, and an estimate of 3-4 hours. This was for MY belongings alone.
When my roommate and I decided to share moving costs, it was already late and the companies that I had inquired had no other slots available.
This was a week before the move and that was how I found Devon Moving Company on Craigslist.
Although I was wary of Craigslist postings, I also read all the yelp reviews and the filtered ones, too. Didn't seem too bad. So I called them up and spoke to Frank over the phone. We also communicated via email. They were courteous and polite. They gave me an estimate of 4 hours with a crew of 3 men and an 18' truck (huge!) for a very competitive rate, which made me slightly worried but I suspect they have lower overhead costs than big name moving companies. we agreed and confirmed a time slot. They were also cool with moving two apartments.
I received a call the day before moving to confirm, and was told that they had a spot open up in the morning if we wanted we could move earlier than scheduled. So we did. They showed up on time, moved all of my roommate's things from a high rise building to the truck, in 1.5 hours (including dismantling of beds and futons and packing small loose items into the wardrobe boxes).
Then they showed up at my place and hauled everything in about 1 hour. The next 2 hours were spent unloading and hauling everything to the third floor walkup unit.
Man I tell you, we would never have been able to accomplish that on our own and not without our friends hating us.
4.5 hours, just slightly more than our estimated time (although all the other companies quoted me 3-4 hours just to move my things alone) so I think they did a pretty great job. Materials were charged extra (tape, cellophane, wardrobe box). I can tell Frank is more experienced as he was seemingly training and giving instructions to the other two, how to go about doing specific things.
I won't be moving again for a long time but when I do I'm calling these guys. Definitely recommend.
PROTIP:
- provide detailed inventory and pack efficiently
- Cash preferred
- Credit card accepted for a fee
- No checks of any kind
- Don't leave 'small things' behind thinking you'll come back and pick it up later. just put everything in a last minute box and have them take it. much easier that way. small things add up quickly. - Jul 21, 2015Updated review
UPDATE:
Frank called to discuss the issues raised in my Yelp review. I was very impressed by the additional effort to follow-up and I think this says a lot about his investment in providing good customer service. I appreciate that he listened to my perspectives, while also sharing the perspectives of his employees. He also assumed responsibility for some of the problems and expressed a sincere interest in resolving my concerns.
Given my follow-up conversation with Frank, their responsiveness (in terms of quick communications throughout the process), and the work ethic of the movers, I would be willing to give them another chance and have confidence that the next move would go much more smoothly (although I have NO plans to move again anytime soon!).Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Jul 19, 2015Previous reviewMy experience with Devon Movers was very mixed. I think they are administratively strong (e.g., online forms, quick response times, accommodating to customer requests, etc.) but weaker in terms of actual moving services provided.
When I initially contacted them via phone, I was informed that they were available for my anticipated 7/16 move date and that their fees were actually incorrectly listed on Yelp (they were higher than the prices advertised). Given the positive Yelp reviews, their timely responses, and my need to move quickly, I decided to move forward with them.
The day of the move, I was surprised to receive an 8:30am call from Henry, indicating they were 15 minutes away, given my move time was scheduled for 10am. Ultimately, Henry proceeded to question why I wasn't ready (asking if I wasn't finished packing, etc.) and was frustrated that I was unavailable to start the move earlier. Given I was preparing my condo for a tenant, I had a contractor completing work that morning and we needed to go to an appliance store and Home Depot. I think this started my move on the wrong foot and it seemed things never completely turned around.
The move started around 9:30am. I was concerned about the size of the truck since I have so many things but had agreed to the "medium" size when speaking with Frank, who coordinated my logistics. With a smaller truck, this meant the movers had to spend extra time trying to pack things to the ceiling and utilize every possible inch to ensure all items fit.
I had three movers, $90 per hour, with a $90 general fee. Within the first hour, there was already a problem...a broken vase at the exit where the movers were loading the truck. I forwarded the pictures to Frank since I knew this is something I would be responsible for to my condo association.
Then the next issue was a ceiling panel in the elevator that was disconfigured by the movers. My contractor was with me when I asked them about this and they indicated they would "take care of it later" - but to avoid any concerns from the other unit owners, my contractor fixed the issue.
Then came the minor damage to the master bedroom walls. Looked like they accidentally hit the wall with the bed rails, resulting in two dents in the wall. Again, I forwarded the pictures to Frank.
Finally, the movers had loaded everything and were on their way to the new place. Interestingly enough, while I know there was traffic, I left about 20 minutes after the movers, met with my banker to open a new account related to my tenant, and still made it to the new place 30 minutes before the movers! As I was en route, Henry calls me angry that I had been communicating with Frank. He basically tells me that he's the foreman on the job, he knows his workers, demands that I send him the pictures, etc. I happily forwarded the pictures and tried to explain to him that you always take pictures during moves, it's a standard practice. He argues with me about the vase and the marks on the wall and how he knows they are not responsible...
They eventually arrive at the new place and Henry proceeds to discussing the aforementioned issues again! Mind you, they have taken about an hour and 45 minutes for a 45 mile drive. Even with traffic and the truck, I have to wonder if they stopped for lunch? I tell Henry that I don't want to continue discussing these matters, particularly given they are being paid by the hour!
The move into the new place goes relatively smoothly with the exception of items not being placed in the correct rooms, despite them being clearly marked. But, the movers were all working diligently and it wasn't an easy task since there are three floors in the new place.
Their pace starts slowing down and Henry says his paperwork will take 30-minutes. When he finishes he indicates they worked 6.5 hours and added extra fees for materials used (e.g., tape) which I didn't realize was extra as I thought it was part of the $90 general fee. Then he decides to redo the paperwork and adds a half hour! What?! He claimed they worked longer, which I disputed. We settled on the 6.5 hours and I gave them each a $40 tip since I believe they did work hard even with the issues. My tab came to almost $700 after negotiating $75 off for the vase and wall damage.
Overall, not the worst experience, but also not the best. - Lauren P.Westmont, IL1054Jan 27, 2019
My Devon moving team lead by Henry kicked butt yesterday in super cold temperatures. Henry had attention to detail and wrapped almost all my furniture to protect from snow that had fallen the night before. Fast, detailed, kind and most of all made my stressful move painless. Alex was great about communication during planning and confirmation.
I was recommended to Devon from a friend and I would do the same for Yelpers that was a worry free move at a great price point.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
