Say No More (3)

Rate this book
Return to New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Liliana Hart's romantic suspense series, the Gravediggers, with this thrilling game of cat and mouse between a member of the Gravediggers and the brilliant woman hot on his heels.
Sometimes the dead do rise...
Dante Malcolm is a man of refined tastes. He was once a part of Britain's Elite Intelligence Force, but there was a reason he'd never been able to capture Simon Locke, the notorious thief who always seemed to be one step ahead. That's because Dante and Simon were one and the same, until Dante's double life eventually caught up with him and now he belongs to the Gravediggers.
Eva Rothschild is a Detective Inspector with Interpol and is the one responsible for catching MI-6's most notorious agent in his final heist--except the heist killed him. But something has never felt right about his death, and it's haunted her for months. It was too easy, and Dante Malcolm was too smart to go down that way.
Dante might belong to the Gravediggers in body, but his heart and soul will always belong to the next job. The rest of the team doesn't know about his alter ego because he made sure the information went missing from his file. So when the job he's always waited for seems like a possibility, he sneaks out of the country like a thief in the night, only to run into the only woman who's ever been able to match him in wit--and passion--for the job. Except they're standing on opposite sides of the law--and only one of them can walk away with the prize.

Liliana Hart

Liliana Hart spent five years teaching music in the public education system. She molded America’s youth, busted kids for smoking pot in the restrooms, and broke up illicit affairs behind the stage on a regular basis. (Liliana’s Addison Holmes Mystery Series, about a small town teacher who gets into a whole lot of trouble, is somewhat autobiographical, but she won’t confess to which parts).

Liliana began reading romance novels with all her new found free time, and when she ran out of things to read, she decided to write her own novels. The result was a 150,000 word thriller—a dazzling adventure—where the heroine was a thirty-year-old virgin assassin (Yes, you read that right). She couldn’t imagine why people weren’t knocking down her door to read it, but she persevered and began writing a second book. She finally got the hang of things, and eventually learned that losing one’s virginity wasn’t all that romantic after all. All of her books involve some kind of suspense (she just can't help herself), laughter, and a lot of steamy sex.

Since the failure of her first attempt, Liliana’s books have won awards such as: The Daphne Du Maurier, The Suzannah, The Linda Howard Award of Excellence, The Maggie, and many others. Her affiliations include Romance Writers of America and Mystery Writers of America.

Liliana loves to cook, and is addicted to reading, Internet Boggle, kickboxing, and Bones. She lives in a big, rambling house in Texas with a couple of cats to keep her company. She loves to get emails from readers.

Enjoy the Adventures!

This story is set up a little differently than the others in the series. We don’t know much about the characters other than a bit of foreshadowing in book two. We are introduced to them by their past history. How they met and their past relationship. And then how everything was ripped apart.

Fast-forward into today and we have an interesting story that sure to tug on your heartstrings. The story mainly focuses on Dante and Liv. The author does a great job of crafting two workaholic and lonely characters. The secrets that tie them together come to light in this unique story.

The author engages us with plenty of action, twists and turns, suspense, romance and a host of other feelings and emotions. With Dante being a Gravedigger and working for the evil Eve, it’s hard to see how a relationship will even be possible. However, the author does not disappoint and we are given a happily ever after that appeases.

This series has been getting better as we move through it. Book one was intriguing. Book two was a bit frustrating. But book three is definitely more my style of romantic suspense and Dante has become one of my favorite Gravediggers.

There were some parts that did come off as a bit strange, however the overall story was exciting and fulfilling in many ways.

I hope the author continues with the series. Axel is an enigma and I hope is the next person on the list to be featured.

’Say No More’ had loads to deliver after I read its blurb.

Slap an arrogant, self-absorbed man who only lives for only himself and his pleasures without any consideration for others on the table and I’m going to want a redemption story and a hard but rewarding way out of the morass he’d found himself in. Put a woman whom he’d wronged so badly that I expect grovelling and a hard time by the end of it.

Instead, all I got was more cocky smugness, inflated self-confidence and the constant pompous justification of why he acts the way he does, amid the backdrop of child-smuggling and a missing twin that could have been more prominent but wasn’t. The action and the suspense somehow took a backseat to the meandering story of Dante’s womanising habits, his history with Liv and the Gravediggers mission that stood in the way of the plot moving forward.

Of all the books in the Gravediggers series, ‘Say No More’ is unfortunately the weakest of the lot in terms of plot and characterisation. It didn’t have the intensity and quirk of the first book nor did it have the same humour and surprises of the second, and I found myself sorely disappointed (and infuriated) in what could have really been a great read.

There was nothing redeemable I found of Dante, for starters. Privileged, unapologetically superficial and self-absorbed as he goes in search of thrills beyond working in MI6, his own selfishness and cowardice leads him to eventually become a Gravedigger, all because he’d no care for anyone but himself, not even the woman he gives up because he was afraid of giving up his lifestyle more. But he merely remains insufferably unrepentant even throughout the 2 years he left Liv—despite the claims he makes about wanting only her—and somehow thinks that a declaration of love at the end without any tangible measure of self-sacrifice would solve all problems between them in his small-minded universe.

Liv, the woman he spurned for the sake of his own skin, is understandably angry but apparently not angry enough that she jumps easily into bed with him despite the enormous amount of hurt he’d caused. Lust, or rather, sex, it seems, is overpowering to the point where Dante and Liv get it on as though 2 years of pain can be brushed aside like nothing. I still liked her better nonetheless—liked her unrelenting determination to search for a sister (whose story feels like a ship passing in the night) and sympathised even the pain she’d gone through.

Still, ‘Say No More’ isn’t a book I’d warmed up to at all, considering the optimism I felt after Elias/Miller’s story. But it’s been long established that my reviews mostly run contrary to what’s found here, so maybe it’ll be right up someone else’s alley. Just not mine.

‘Say No More’ is a story of intrigue, it was a cat and mouse game.

Liv and Danté start out on the same side, or so Liv thought. She is on the hunt for the notorious Simon Locke and Danté has signed up to help her. They were in love. It is after Simon steals a painting that Liv discovers Simon is really Danté. She doesn’t have time to process her new-found information as Danté seemingly falls to his death. What Liv doesn’t know is Danté had "die" and start working as an agent in the Grave Digger organization. His next task is to steal a nuclear device from the Sultan. Which brings him straight into the path of Liv again, because now Liv is in Dubai, hunting the Sultan because she has reason to believe he is trafficking young girls.

One thing I noticed about the book, is there was too much filler, which dragged down the plot and slowed the story down. I wished there wasn’t so much explanation and maybe, even more dialogue, something to get it moving faster. I understand the need for description and background information, but being that it is told in 3rd person, it became boring. I felt like the story was being told to me and I wasn’t able to “experience” the story. Which really was a shame, because I really liked the story line and it had a lot of potential to wow me.

So, final verdict, it was an okay read. While there were some missing elements for me to love it, I did enjoy the story.

**I received an Advanced Reader Copy. This did not influence my opinion of the book, nor my review.**

Of all the Gravediggers Dante has been the one character I haven’t really cared about. He came across as vain with his love of fancy clothes and dating so many beautiful women and he definitely didn’t get any better in this book. His arrogance annoyed me and adding the fact that this was a second chance romance (I almost always struggle with finding ones I like) and it was almost guaranteed that I would have problems with this book.

“It must be nice to be that self-absorbed. To never consider anyone else’s feelings. Or to use them however you see fit to get exactly what you want.”

Like most second chance romances the heroine pined and grieved for the hero even though he betrayed her and she hasn’t moved on while the hero has slept with every blonde he came across that reminded him of her. So while she had to suffer, picking up the pieces of her life when he supposedly died, he kept on his double life of thieving and sleeping with many women. Normally one would expect some show of genuine remorse over how he betrayed the heroine, but there was hardly any grovelling. Because Dante is arrogant and selfish and used to getting what he want and according to him she was always wet and willing so it wasn’t all his fault. Yeah, such a nice guy.

Then there is Liv, the heroine, who I disliked also, which was probably why I really didn’t care that she ended up with an ass like Dante. Her anger at him was just smoke with no real fire. She fell back into bed with him so fast that I lost all respect for her. And the fact that they had sex in in a dungeon after being captured, while anybody could have walked in made me roll my eyes so hard. They are so professional. It also didnt help that these two only met again half-way through the book, which made their romance even more unbelievable.

The only things I liked about this book was Elaine their IA computer who was hilarious and my favorite Gravedigger Axel, who still remains true to his wife who thinks he’s dead. Now that is a true hero and I REALLY hope he gets his HEA.

Sadly this book was a total miss for me which is sad because I’ve really enjoyed this series so far. I hope there will be more books and that they’ll continue to be as excellent as the first two books were.

This story involves Dante Malcolm a former Britain Elite Intelligence Forces member, and the notorious Simone Locke, a notorious thief. Hart shares his history, and we learn how he and his partner, Eva Rothschild a Detective Inspector with Interpol worked to capture Locke. When his double life catches up with him, he agrees to fake his death and joins the Gravediggers leaving behind the only woman he has ever loved. Now, he is working a solo mission to retrieve highly sensitive information, and his path crosses those of Eva.

I loved getting the background stories on both Eva and Dante. Dante is British, and typically the accent alone is enough to make me swoon, but the man is arrogant and selfish. He wants to have his cake and eat it too. The nerve...lol I did like Eva. The woman is passionate, driven and determined to seek justice for those who cannot protect themselves. Their feelings were genuine and thanks to character growth Dante grew on me..but the man needed to grovel.

“It must be nice to be that self-absorbed. To never consider anyone else’s feelings. Or to use them however you see fit to get exactly what you want.”

The case was an exciting one with human trafficking, security codes, and intense action scenes. There were plenty of twists, turns, and hang-ups as they moved to close their cases. I thought the thread about the wife, of the son, of our villain, was interesting. I had a hard time buying she wanted to stay or that Eva could let go like that. Hart did an excellent job with the trafficking issue and highlighted some of the frustrations law enforcement faces.

The romance grabbed page time from a gripping suspense and delivered heat. The scene in the castle had me cracking up. I for one don't think I could have let passion get the best of me in a situation like that. I like when there is a balance between the suspense and romance.  However, in this instance, I craved a more in-depth case.

I absolutely love the AI computer software system. Her personality and comments cracked me up. Any page time with her was welcome. We did get some page time with the other Gravediggers and learned some more information about them. I am hoping we get all of their stories. The series has continued to get stronger, and while not perfect, I do want more.

Say No More is the third installment of The Gravedigger’s series by Liliana Hart. A story of a group of men who died only to be brought back to life to work for undercover ops group that no one in the government knows about. No, not in a paranormal way, but in a chemical way. These men are staged to die in almost every way, seemingly dead to everyone but arises days hours after buried. Kinda cool right?

This book focuses on Dante Malcolm who was a double agent for the British Intelligence and for the Interpol. Everything has been a game to him until he fell for his partner, Eva Rothschild. Unfortunately, he was forced to leave it all behind and now working for The Gravediggers.

There’s quite a bit of Dante’s backstory in this installment. It’s definitely a different take on The Gravediggers’ MO. I suppose it’s due to the fact that Dante, as we know him is very distant compared to the rest of the crew. In this book, he takes on a job on his own, outside of the Gravedigger’s assignments. But as it were, he should know that they are brothers in arms and will back each other up anytime.

I liked Dante. His introvert persona reminded me of a lot of people I know. And his accidental love for Eva was super cute. I love it when the romance is unexpected. I thought Eva with her past and Dante being, well, Dante made them a perfect couple.

It’s always nice for the other characters to get their page time. Though not as much as the previous books, Hart gave enough character building for the other crew. Eve, who leads this group, had quite a bit of page time. I wonder if Hart is gearing to her story soon. Al, their computer with a voice and personality was super funny. This intelligent software definitely has taken her share of page time. The history of her voice intrigues me and again wonder where Hart will take this part of the story.

Say No More is the best read of the series. I definitely enjoyed this the best considering I didn’t think I would continue on with the series...but there you have, I enjoyed it a lot.

Dante revealed.

Tight prose only adds to this episode of the Gravediggers. (Lord) Dante Malcolm is front and centre, a former British Intelligence force agent and art thief extraordinaire, now an agent with Gravediggers. He is equally matched by Liv Rothschild. Sadness encompasses Liv. Her twin sister Elizabeth disappeared, taken when they we playing hooky in Harrods. No trace of Elizabeth was ever found. Liv blames herself. This effects all her actions. She is driven by her sister's disappearance. She spends her life trying to make up for that. Liv is a Detective with Interpol and is on the hunt for art thief Simon Locke, an alter ego for Dante. Of course things are complex. This is a Gravedigger's novel after all. Their paths first cross prior to Dante joining the Gravedigger's team.
It seems Liv and Dante had an intense sexual relationship that always seems to have its outlet in dark and dangerous situations. Added spice or just no time?
The international political backdrop of the novel is so today that I really had to take a step back. I don't think we'd quite reached the level of today's international angst when Hart was writing this.
Eve Winter is still her cold hard self. That woman really freaks me out. I so want to see her story, or maybe not. Can't help but wonder how she came to be.
Elaine the computer is hilarious. Her innocently matter of fact questions about being human and what that entails keep you shaking your head. I am wondering how and if she's going to develop.
Apparently she's "the perfect union of technology and robotics... She was free to think on her own and had developed her own personality, much to the amusement of them all."
The body she going to choose when she finally has a physical manifestation if she does have one will be fascinating, and a little creepy.
A slick, many faceted and engaging thriller that holds your interest.

This is book 3 in Liliana Hart's Gravedigger series and you must read the first 2 or you will get lost with who each character is. I'm not going to rehash any story because if you have read the first 2 and then the blurb for this one you will get where it's going.

I don't know if it's just me but I feel that the series lost it's way in this book. I have totally loved this series for the most part because it's so different in it's plot, but I feel even the plot lost it's way a little and didn't meet expectations. For example - the Gravediggers are a secret organisation that even parts of the government don't know about and in this instalment there was just to many outsiders getting an explanation to who they were without repercussions and that to me was a major factor in the story itself.

The writing itself flows well but I found again as I did in book one that it was too wordy with too much filler that wasn't needed. The characters themselves are mature and well written and easily loved but even thought the chemistry was there I didn't feel it exploded like it did with previous characters in the book. There also wasn't much to the epilogue and didn't give enough on how it panned out between the main characters and I think a huge difference could have been made if it were extended.

With all that being said it's still a really enjoyable series and a lot different to other romance novels out there because the plot in itself is so unique which is important to me because you find in the romance market the same generic plot lines can be repeated continuously. I still recommend this series to other readers because of it's originality and writing style.

Dante is not a character that we've seen too much of leading up to this installment. He's always away doing things when there's ever any down time and he doesn't seem to really hang out with the guys much when there's a break in work. So, I was interested in learning a little bit about him. I especially liked the concept that he was both part of an elite special force and also a well known thief by the name of Simon Locke at the time of his "death". Not to mention that his girlfriend was a detective who's mission was to take down Simon Locke. With those two things considered, I thought this book was going to be explosive.

Say No More is pretty much a secret spy novel. There's a lot of recon, surveillance work, and the characters go undercover to get close to their target. These two don't actually reunite until about 200 pages into the story. Liv is trying to save trafficked girls and Dante is trying to recover launch codes, and their target is the same person. A lot of the story is sort of the set-up for these two with both how they knew each other before, and what they've been up to since. I'll be honest, I was a little bored through a lot of it. Plus, it didn't help that they didn't team up with each other until the last quarter of the story.

While their romance isn't necessarily considered "instalove" since they were together previously, I felt like they fell back into old ways too quickly. I mean, you just found out the double-crosser is still somehow alive, you've both been captured by the enemy and thrown in their underground cell, and yet you start going at it like rabbits the moment you're alone? I just felt like if I had more time with them as a couple in the present, I'd have connected with them a bit more as a couple.

While Say No More isn't my favorite from the Gravediggers series, it was still interesting getting to see who Dante was and what his life was like before he was "killed". However, I wish we had more time with Dante and Liv together in present time, and I wish Liv had made him grovel for the way things went down in his "previous" life. I mean, the man almost ruined her entire career. I plan to keep up with the series because I really want to know Axel's story and see how that all plays out. He not only left behind a wife that he still keeps tabs on, but he requested that the Gravedigger AI be given his wife's voice. Hmmm.... something tells me his story is going to be a good one and I really hope he's able to reconnect with his wife.

In his previous life, Dante was well to do, worked for MI6, has big secrets, and has a huge ego..until Eve Winters brings him down a notch. (Side note: I don't like Eve, but man, she can make the guys jump though hoops to have her way. It will be interesting to see where she ends up!) Jump forward two years and Dante is still well to do, works for a secret ops group-Gravediggers, has big secrets, and has a huge ego. Obviously, not much has changed, except he doesn't have the girl and is quite the loner, even with his team mates.

Feisty and stubborn, Liv was a likeable character. I'm not sure what she saw in Dante, because she could have better, but props for taking him on! Upon his "death", Liv was a casualty of his ego. After the way he left Liv, and then picked up as if nothing had happened two years later? Um, no. Personally, I felt Dante should have groveled more than he did.

His relationship with Liz was tepid; the physical attraction was meh and I wasn't clicking emotionally to either of them. They had unresolved relationship issues lusty romps wouldn't fix, but darned if Dante didn't give it the ole college try!

After Elias and Miller's fast paced story, I had high hopes Dante's book would be as good, if not better. I'd say it fell in the middle. While there is some action, suspense, and off beat humor, Dante's ego overshadowed a lot. If there had been less focus on Dante and more focus on the suspense thread, or even Liv and Dante as a couple, I think I'd have liked this book more than I did.

Having said that, I enjoyed seeing the rest of the crew, especially Axel, and liked catching up with the first two couples in the series. I will continue the series, because I'm hoping to have closure for the variety of plot threads that currently seem to lead back to Eve.

I really love this series. In this book we get Dante's story. The debonair British hottie who also has a secret identity that not even his brothers of the Gravediggers know about.

We are also introduced to Liv in the beginning of the book, and her childhood story seriously broke my heart. But it made her the woman she was and gave her the strength she needed to make a difference in the world.

I loved Dante's connection with Liv, who was a member of Interpol. Needless to say, their current work situations made things a little tense between them, but the chemistry was there, and I was pulling for them the whole time.

Dante broke Liv's heart, but really he had no choice, so when they cross paths again, she is rightfully angry and hurt and confused, but that chemistry.....yep, still smoking hot!

I'm dying for Axel's story!!! Seriously hoping his will be next. And will we ever get the details of Eve Winter's life. She is cold-hearted and strictly business (in charge of the Gravediggers). Will someone come along to finally melt her heart? I hope so.

Like I said, love this series. If you are looking for a change from the same-old, same-old, this is for you!

With a completely different setup than the first two novels in the series–but no less exciting–Say No More found our main characters once again falling in love while they raced across the globe to save a group of young girls from harm.

‘Dante refused to steal for the sake of stealing. There had to be a reason, and someone had to benefit. Having a moral compass, as loose as it may be, had kept him grounded.’

The Gravediggers series has been one thrilling ride after another so far and this installment, while quite distinct in its own way, proved to be filled with action and intrigue as well. Like I mentioned, the feel and the setup for Dante and Liv’s story was unique but I think it worked well. Their situation was far removed from our previous couples where they had a history together and I liked how Hart clued us in to their past with the snippets she added here and there of their previous time together. An Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of this book was received free via Netgalley for an honest review.

For two books now, there has just been something missing in this series. But with Say No More, Hart knocks it out of the park. This book absolutely blew me away in both good and bad ways. But one thing it never does is sugarcoat the ugliness hidden deep inside and I *love* that. But what I love even more is that I missed my bus stop reading this book!

If you like The Thomas Crown Affair you will love this book. If you like The Princess Bride you will probably like Simon Locke. And if you happen to remember a certain dangerous woman by the name of Marlena, there is a Marlena here too (though dangerous in a totally different way). Three very different stories that I thought of immediately while reading this book.

So what was different in this book? I'm pretty sure that the sense of sameness for Dante and Liv helped a great deal. Both are adrenaline junkies. Both come from similar backgrounds. Both have strong feelings, thoughts, and opinions. There is no power differential here. They are equals - one of the reasons they are not together when the book opens.

But here's the rub: I can't talk about this book without spoilers. So, I loved this book. I can't recommend it more. The emotion, the intrigue, the set up, and the pay off are fantastic. Each of these books has seemed to have a sort of central theme. This one's theme is particularly dark: to win, you have to play dirty and when you play dirty there are acceptable losses. Everyone here operates in bands of grey. Sometimes, they are so grey as to be basically black. And yet, I love the dark tone of this book because it is so perfectly balanced by Liv and Dante's play.

And now, in a series of titled spoilers, I'll tell you specifics of why I loved this book.

Spoiler 1: On Simon Locke

Spoiler 2: On Elizabeth

Spoiler 3: On death

Spoiler 4: On Ambiguity
Note: This is a huge spoiler. Be very sure you want to know *all* about this book before reading.

Spoiler 5: On Human Trafficking

Dante Malcolm is yet another reluctant member of the gravediggers team. His past is much more convoluted than some of the other members. He was once part of Britain’s Elite Intelligence Force and a thief. He played both parts for so long, dodging the bullets and potentially jail time while pretending to capture “himself”.

The time came when Liv Rothschild was finally able to get Simon Locke (aka Dante) but of course he slips through her fingers. He decides to jump off a building rather than get caught. He was witty and smart. While she knew she was good at her job, she couldn’t shake the feeling that he was still around.

This has to be my favorite of the series so far. I think I was wooed by Dante’s whole demeanor. He is so reminisce of a James Bond character. There is more than one side to him. He is more than a member of Britain’s M16 or the infamous international thief. He is a passionate and arrogant man as well.

The team doesn’t know about Dante Malcolm’s past. He makes sure to stay away from it and any details of his past. A new case is presented and Dante sneaks away but he runs into the one woman who can bring him down. The team is about the experience a shake-up as they become more involved in Dante’s life. They have to realize that while they didn’t ask to be a part of the gravediggers, they are and they all need to be upfront and honest with who they are.

Liv’s case to blow up a human trafficking ring leads her to a private island to work side by side with the man she could never catch. The two have to learn to trust one another. Liv’s painful past involving the disappearance of her sister adds a more realistic emotional aspect to the story.

There is a lot of drama, conflict, sexual tension and of course romance in this one. The author definitely found her way to perfectly infusing romance and suspense together in this addition. We slowly get to see some glimpses into the other secondary characters and even what is going on with past couples. I look forward to reading the next in the series.

Dante is part of the Gravediggers, but within the first 2 books he holds himself back. He's part of the team and he'd protect, defeat and die for a team member, and yet he's a loner in many ways. At least, that how it seems until you realize in Say No More he's actually being used by Eve for assignments behind the backs of the team. See, Dante isn't just MI6, he's also a professional thief, which brings in a great skill set. Yes he's cocky, arrogant, self-centered, rich, self-obsorbed and he's been that way throughout all 3 books. He wasn't one of my favorite alphas, but I didn't hate him.

When Liv was 6 y/o her twin sister was snatched while at Harrods. This chapter in Liv's life is what lead her to a career in Interpol. She ultimately wants to find her sister. Through a common case she falls in love with Dante, but unbeknownst to her he's been compromised because Eve has found out about his thievery. He can either die and come back as a Gravedigger, or she'll cause him so much trouble he'll be ruined. We know what he picks.

While on an independent case for Eve he bumps into Liv, which really pisses Liv off because he's suppose to be dead. He's there to steal launch codes (and a painting he wants) and she's there trying to find 10 girls that are about to be sold into slavery. During the story they have a lot to work through personally while keeping their minds on their cases.

This is the third book in the series and they really need to be read in order to get the full picture.

Dante Malcolm has been arrogant, aloof, self centered and self impressed since we met him in previous books. Former MI6, he has lead a double life for many years, including his time with the Gravediggers. None of his teammates the wiser.

Liv is supposedly the love of his life that he gave up, without too much thought, to save his own hide. She is a detective with Interpol and the one to discover Dante’s alter ego. She was devastated when he “died.”

Dante and Liv’s history and relationship, along with excuses for his behavior, take up most of the book with the action/suspense of the story more of a backdrop. Dante did not do enough groveling or making up for his abominable behavior. Liz caved much too quickly and easily. I struggled to see them as a couple.

Eve Winters remains a stone cold evil woman. Her ability to know all is just plain creepy.

I liked reading the ongoing storylines of the couples from the first two books and their continuing developments. The scene in the dungeon needs better editing.

I wasn’t as involved or intrigued by this story as the first two. However, I anxiously await Axel’s story

****3.5 Stars****

The final installment of the Gravediggers Series was my favorite by far. Say No More follows a little different format than the rest of the series. We open with a flashback as this second chance romance kicks off. This one is about the illusive Dante Malcolm. The British Gentleman with a penchant for the finer things, and an air of unmistakable cockiness. His counterpart Liv Rothschild has a bit of an issue with our hero, and what ensues is the typical dance of cat and mouse. The whole gang is present, and after a brief stint in Last Stop Texas, we travel to the dangerous world of sex trafficking.

Something has been off in this series for me since book one, but this one made the most sense to me. I didn't end the book with more questions than starting with, although I don't feel like this tied up the series any. I enjoyed the dynamic of the group, and I kinda liked this couple. He was arrogant and she held a grudge, but they couldn't fight their chemistry. Vile Eve was present in full view, which I enjoyed, I would have liked a bit more of her story. Elaine actually had me laughing out loud once or twice and in my opinion Elaine, the AI computer, stole the show. Intriguing concept with a lot of filler, but this one was an enjoyable read nonetheless.

I've been a fan of Liliana Hart since I read Whiskey Rebellion. She hasn't ever let me down. I didn't really care for her choice in characters here, but she still has a fan with me.

This review is based on the ARC provided by the author and/or the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

I switched between the audiobook (80%) and ebook (20%). I enjoyed the narrators. I like the H/h and the secondary characters. I didn't feel the author answered or provided conclusions to everything. I will be reading the next one in this series.

Plot: 3.5/5
Characterisation: 3/5
Prose: 3/5
How much I enjoyed it: 4/5

The series has a potential to be a great one but I feel like the author focus too much on the setup and background but not enough on the sometimes implausible plot or the mediocre male characters.

I picked up this book with great anticipation.  The first two in the series were top notch—The Darkest Corner, and Gone to Dust.

While two of the gravediggers fell in love with Tess and Miller from Last Stop, Texas, this book comes at a different angle.

Our hero, Dante Malcolm, formerly worked for British Elite Intelligence Force, aka Simon Locke, a renowned thief.  He is so good as a thief, he never gets caught, while thoroughly enjoying the adrenalin kick and necessary preparation to make a perfect steal.  It challenges him. He also enjoys the art he collects for himself while out on the job as Simon Locke.  He has a code of honor, of sorts.  He  never thieves anything that hasn’t previously been thieved from the present owner. Hmm.  Does that make him a good thief?

He met Liv Rothschild in his Elite Intelligence connection, while she worked with Interpol. Their mission?  To catch Simon Locke.  Dante was in the perfect position to have that never happen.

What Dante didn’t prep himself for, is the all-consuming desire to be with Liv.  They were mutually attracted and worked well together. He admired everything about her.  Through time, this pull only gets stronger.  Dante’s biggest flaw when it comes to life in general, is he is conceded, overly so, however, he does have some right to believe himself above the common thief.

Apparently, one Eve Winter thought the same way, targeting him for her gravedigger team. She gives him a choice—to be caught because she has all the dirt on him, or die and join a team of guys who save the world.  He chooses the latter.

Just a comment about Eve Winter.  She is ruthless, heartless, cold-blooded and despised by the gravediggers.  If you are new to the series, she is the gravedigger’s boss.  She’s a very scary individual with lots of power.  Her gravediggers are dead men; she gives them a new life.  They work for her for seven years—that’s the contract.  She in turn reports to agencies who work outside the normal channels, but are considered the good guys.

Even though Eve Winter is who she is, I feel there is a story behind the woman, and I feel a bit sorry for her.  There must be some humanity in her if she let two of the five gravediggers marry.  I’m hoping the author will share her with us.  Who knows?  Love conquers all and just maybe she’ll change.

There were some real precious, funny moments.  Elaine is the name of the computer the gravediggers work with.  If you followed Star Trek (I did), you know the type of computer I mean. It answers verbal questions.  But Elaine, not only has access to world-wide information, she has a personality she’s working on.  She reads, watches movies and picks up all manner of things.

The following excerpt has Dante stealing into a palace to get some necessary documents from the bad guys. He is now with the gravediggers.  This scene is full of suspense, and then I’m laughing.

Making a split-second decision he ran back down the hallway to the sitting room door and let himself in again, closing the door behind him. And then he waited, his heart pounding wildly in his chest as the footsteps made their way down the hall.  He heard the guard pass by, a jangle of keys in his hand as he prepared to unlock the other sitting room door, and then Dante slipped out behind the man. He had him in a choke hold and his air cut off in three seconds, and then he dragged him back into the sitting area. He used more zip ties to bind the man’s hands and feet and put a piece of tape over his mouth.

“Elaine,” he said, activating her on this watch.

“Your heart rate is elevated, Dante. Is everything all right?”

“Just a little unexpected surprise. I’m heading to the vault now. Time is going to be of the essence. We’ll need to move quickly."

“I’ll be ready for your commands” she said. “Going back into silent mode.”

He left the guard in the room and ran down the hallway, expecting a squad of guards to be waiting for him. But still there was no one, and he started to get a little tingle at the base of his spine. Or maybe he was just paranoid and reading more into the silence than he should.

He cut across the large open space between the east wing and the north wing, using the large columns for cover, as he all but ran toward Mittal’s office. The white carved doors with gold swans as knobs were original to the palace, but the security panel next to the door was twenty-first-century technology.

“Elaine,” he said, keeping his voice low. “Approaching office door.”   [at this point, reader, my heart is in my throat]

“Ten-four, kemo sabe,” she said. [here’s where I crumble with laughter]

“Now’s not a good time, Elaine.”

“My apologies, sir. I’ve been practicing my pop culture. The panel to your right is keycard-operated. It’s a ten-digit binary code that’s changed weekly.”

I’m in love with Elaine.  She’ll keep you entertained, that’s for sure.

Lastly, I come to Liv Rothschild.  All her life she’s felt guilty about the abduction of her twin sister.  At six, Liv was the more adventurous, goading her sister to do things she shouldn’t. Elizabeth was abducted from Harrod’s Department store one Christmas holiday, never to be traced again.  Liv, all her life, kept looking for her sister.  Hence, her work in Interpol.  Liv has few friends. In her line of work, she can’t indulge, but lately, she’d like to let someone into her life, Dante Malcolm, that is, until he dies.

Super, super book for fans of suspense, romance, and like their heroes and heroines strong who are not afraid to right wrongs and save the world. Great pacing, a page-turner and just simply a delightful series. I highly recommend it.

An exciting and interesting twist to the Black Op/ex-military genre.

I put a trigger warning because this book deals with the trafficking of little girls for sex slavery. While the violence is not graphically detailed, you can’t help but be aware of the consequences if the mission fails without it being spelled out.

I was offered a review copy of The Darkest Corner (Book 1) a few months ago. I looked at it a few times but didn’t take a copy simply to avoid overloading my review list. I am kicking myself right now since I enjoyed the dynamic of this group of Gravediggers. The name comes from the fact that those hand-picked individuals who come from different military groups around the world must die in their former lives. They are injected with a serum which imitates death and after they are buried, they resuscitate and are eventually dug up to join the group. Now while the men in this group are all picked for their skills, they are not the most upstanding of men and that it one of the reasons they are picked to “die off” and join. The only problem I had is that they are all supposed to be dead but they were all using their real names. Shouldn’t they have been given a new identity once they made the team?

In this story, Lord Dante Malcolm is an agent with MI6 and he also leads a secret life as an art thief under the name Simon Locke. Now the idea for Simon Locke seems to have been taken from the Princess Bride and like the Dread Pirate Roberts, it is a name passed down from thief to thief after the current Simon decides he wants to retire, he then finds an apprentice. Dante liked the excitement of not only stealing valuable art but to be doing it while working MI6.

Sleeping with the woman at Interpol tasked with taking down Simon Locke, Inspector Olivia Rothschild, was supposed to just be for a bonus thrill, but they both fall in love. Dante is arrogant enough to think he can continue to have it all: Agent, thief and lover but it all falls down around his ears when Eve Winters, head of the Gravediggers, confronts him. She knows about Simon Locke and unless Dante dies and joins the Gravediggers, she will make sure he spends the remainder of his days behind bars.

With no other options, Dante fakes his death and joins, but he is still living a double life as his brothers-in-arms are not aware of Dante’s Simon persona but Eve makes sure to use him and his skills on special assignments. One which includes retrieving nuclear launch codes before they go on auction to the highest bidder.

Meanwhile, Liv has grieved for and hated Dante for his deception and her almost disgrace at Interpol for sleeping with the man she was supposed to be tracking down. Nowadays, Liv is working with a task force trying to take down a ring of human traffickers who abduct and sell little girls. Liv has strong feelings about this assignment because her twin sister was abducted when they were six and she has never been able to find any trace of her.

Liv and Dante’s assignments lead them to the same man and as Liv comes face to face with the man who broke her heart, accusations–and punches–are thrown about but they are forced to work together for the safety of those missing girls and the world in general. I did find it confusing that while Dante came to the bad guy’s house prepared to get through the several layers of guards and sophisticated security, Liv managed to get to the door but didn’t have any tech toys to get her past the front door or any plan to get the little girls out — so what was she planning to do if she hadn’t run into Dante right there and then? Did she think she would shadow someone inside and leave holding hands like they were on a school field trip? It was kind of stupid for a trained agent to be standing there empty handed. Dante said to himself that she must have watched the same 20/20 Special tour of the house that he did, but obviously she didn’t pay attention that the heavily guarded bad guy lair had high-tech security. Duh!

Lilliana Hart writes a very captivating group of characters and I really will have to make time to go back and read the first two stories. Even the sophisticated AI computer that they use has a fun personality as she tries to fit in with the group, showing what she has decided she will look like once a body can be created for her, and trying to flirt with Dante. I also want to find out why Axel would give her the voice of his wife (who he left behind). Is this a reminder of his lost love or punishment for having to give her up? Hmmm…I definitely want more of this series. Even their Queen Bitch leader must have an interesting story behind how she can be so cold and focused.

I am definitely in for more.

Say No More by Liliana Hart is the 3rd book in her Gravediggers series. Liliana Hart once again gives us another wonderful exciting, fun, action filled and hot story line revolving around the Gravediggers we have come to love. Brief refresher: The Gravediggers are elite former military men that work at a funeral home as a cover, and are in actuality working for a secret government agency that takes on impossible missions.

In Say No More, Dante Malcom is our hero, and we learn so much about his past life and why Eve picked him to be part of the Gravediggers. Liv Rothschild, our heroine, was an awesome heroine; she is the best one yet, and believe me when I say the first two heroines were great. But Liv was fantastic, being an Interpol agent, beautiful, savvy, smart and someone who can stand up to even the best Gravediggers.

Before Dante became a Gravedigger, he was a con artist thief, who had multiple identities and was Liv’s partner on Britain’s Elite Intelligence Force; their mission was to find the elusive thief, Simon Locke. Besides being partners, Dante and Liv are also lovers.

When Eve Winter (the head of the Gravediggers) visits Dante at a party with Liv, she convinces him to accept her offer to join the Gravediggers (or he will end up in jail), since she knows everything, including that he is truly Simon Locke. Before the night is out, Simon lays dead (he isn’t really dead, as all the Gravediggers are technically dead, as a serum makes them appear dead, and then they are revived), and Liv is shocked to find out he was Simon Locke. She will have to prove her innocence, and despite her broken heart, will eventually join Interpol, as one of their best agents.

What follows is a terrific story with Eve sending Dante to Europe to steal a stolen document that has dangerous codes that will release nuclear weapons. Liv is on another assignment to find a powerful man behind child slavery, and is determined to stop him. Both will end up in the same place, with Liv in total shock seeing her dead lover alive. The Gravedigger team will help Dante, and Liv will eventually also help in the dangerous mission to save the children, as well as find the codes.

I loved Dante and Liv together, as they were so great, not to mention their sizzling chemistry. I hope to see more of them in the future books. This was an enjoyable, exciting story, great characters, especially those we met in earlier books, a wonderful couple and a sexy romance. Liliana Hart once again gives us a fun filled, action packed, and fast paced story that had me unable to put the book down. I suggest you start this series by reading in the correct order to fully understand the background of this series: The Darkest Corner, Gone to Dust and now Say No More.

Another dangerous thrilling adventure…

This is the third book in the Gravediggers series.

As the elusive team member of The Gravediggers, Dante Malcolm prefers his condo to residence on the base as it enables him to continue the double life he’d led before his forced death. A former member of Britain’s MI6, he was also the infamous international thief Simon Locke that no one could catch though many agencies tried. His current team is unaware of his duplicity, the woman who is his boss though does, and she uses his skills to the benefit of her overall operation. Sent on a private assignment to Saudi Arabia to retrieve stolen Russian launch codes he’s blindsided by the woman he’d left behind.

Life at Interpol for Detective Inspector Olivia Rothschild hasn’t been the same since she failed to capture the renowned thief who died after completing a truly spectacular heist and she learned the man she’d been bedding, the intelligence agent she was working with on the case, was also the thief. He’d been her addiction then the cause of agonizing heartbreak, his betrayal a severe lesson learned. On her own after having her hands tied after a rescue involving young children and human trafficking she followed the trail to Saudi Arabia to free more victims. She never expected she’d run into the dead man she’d loved and then grown to hate while undercover in a sultan’s palace.

The Gravediggers are short a man when they need all hands on board, the boss suspended Dante for insubordination. Did she really think Deacon would buy that story? They’ve all had their insubordinate moments with the wicked witch that owns their souls during the period of their contract. But Deacon’s now curious about what his teammate is really involved in and there are ways to gain access to classified information. Deacon’s need to know placed the team exactly where Dante and Liv needed them, in time for an interesting confession, now everyone is angry at Dante.

Two people all dressed in black having an argument while stealthily sneaking around where they weren’t supposed to be was exceedingly dangerous. But when faced with a dead man responsible for so much of her personal grief combined with the adrenaline rush of the mission and not to mention that the man still pushes her feminine buttons Liv’s anger went through the roof, Dante has a lot of explaining to do and quickly but time isn’t on their side and their only good option is working in tandem, settling things after they escape. This was a great scene with sarcastic dialogue, lots of emotions amid fast moving action and suspense, scenes like this is why this reader enjoys this series so much.

Our hero is an arrogant, extremely confident, thief who had a moral code regarding his appropriations, he’s addicted to the thrill of the challenge. He had one regret when forced to leave behind the life he’d been leading, losing Olivia. She had become a necessary part of his regimen. After crossing paths again he didn’t want to give her up. He’d had a fantastic run but it’s not the same without the woman who makes his blood burn. Can he convince the kick-ass heroine to give them another chance? Dante very much reminded this reader of the fictional character Simon Templar aka The Saint.

This was an exciting suspenseful story, a dangerous thrilling adventure with much intrigue and many elements to captivate your attention: a missing twin, Russian launch codes, human trafficking, an artificial intelligence program who learns with a delightfully amusing attitude, protagonists with explosive chemistry, deep unresolved emotions and character growth.

Say No More is the third book in the Gravediggers series, which are all standalones but tells the individual story and romance of each member. These are men who are given second chances to work for a secret group that well catches the bad guys by every means possible.
Say No More centers in the ever suave and sexy Dante Malcolm who unlike his brothers in arms is not a soldier but led a double life before his fake death. A spy and a thief when he was with MI6, Dante now works for the Gravediggers and does secret side jobs for their ever mysterious but bitchy puppet master, Eve. He hates keeping secrets from the rest of the Gravediggers but he has no choice since they might really not accept him once they realize he happens to be a former thief. When his next assignment leads him back to the one thing he regrets leaving in his past life, Dante has a lot of things to atone for, not just from Liv but also from his brothers in arms. But first they need to get back what was stolen from the world and from Liv.

I really love this series, one because the premise of the story is really unique, two, Eve is becoming really, really interesting because evil puppet master must have her own past and three, each story has their own plot of basically saving the world by getting rid of bad guys by any means possible. Say No More also deals with a very heavy topic about white slavery and exploitation of children. This one hits really hard since its a very real and horrifying social issue that we still have no means of solving. So yeah to get some form of retribution in this book eases the ache somewhat.

Dante and Liv do have a past, so it's quite easy for the romance to progress in a short period of time. Both these characters are multidimensional and definitely have their own personality quite separate from each other. They do have a lot of very erotic sex scenes in the most unusual places but hey lets chalk it up to combustible sexual tension and adrenaline. Overall, Say No More will have readers turning the pages and asking for more of this series!

Say No More is the third book in Liliana Hart’s Gravediggers series and it does not disappoint. I have read all of the books and can assure you that they could be read as standalones. However, you should really read them in succession in order to get the full experience and understand all of the relationships. Nonetheless, I feel like I am just saying the same thing over and over again about this series. I love it. I really love it. It’s action packed. There’s an extremely X-rated approach to the sex that goes on between the hero and the heroine so there will be a need for several cold showers. In addition, the characters have some very interesting back stories that lend credence to their actions.

In this installment, the focus is on former MI-6 agent Dante Malcolm who led a double life as an elusive thief named Simon Locke. During that time, he was very much involved with Olivia “Liv” Rothschild who was a Detective Inspector with Interpol. Together, they spent countless hours trying to bring down Simon Locke until Simon/Dante was given an offer that he literally could not refuse. That offer broke Liv’s heart and sent Dante to his “grave”. A couple of years of being a Gravedigger hasn’t made Dante forget about Liv. As far as Liv is concerned, she hasn’t forgotten about Dante either. Unfortunately for Liv, she carries several burdens. The least of which is the disappearance of her twin sister Elizabeth. The drama intensifies for all of them when a mission to retrieve nuclear launch codes intersects with the quest to locate a human trafficking ring. In true Gravediggers fashion, Dante and his team go all out to complete their mission while dealing with Dante’s past.

Dante and Liv have never been able to resist their attraction to each other. Even while chained, they manage to still satisfy their carnal desires. Together, they create enough heat to rival the Sun. Plus, they work well together as a team. Since we are talking about the Gravediggers, know that they come prepared for every mission with weapons and tech that is unmatched. James Bond would be jealous. Everything about them is over the top. Say No More is one of those books that is packed with so much excitement, it’s impossible to put it down. I sure hope there is another book coming. All of the Gravediggers deserve to have their stories told.
