The much-loved Capcom game Okami is getting another HD version for modern gaming hardware early this December.

The original game was released on PS2 back in 2006 and was a fascinating title, where you played as the god Amaterasu in a beautifully cel-shaded world straight out of Japanese myths and legends.

It was later ported to the Wii in 2008 and then given an HD remaster on the PS3 in 2012.

The latter is what this version seems to be based off, as it will be coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC. What’s more, the PC, PS4 Pro and Xbox One X versions will also support 4K output as well.

While Okami is definitely a fan favorite, it didn’t really do all that well on its release. At the time, I interviewed the game’s producer Atsushi Inaba about Okami and he was hopeful the game would do well. After all, there wasn’t anything else really like it available.

In many ways, the same thing could be argued now but I am still glad to see Capcom trying to give Okami the attention it needs, even over a decade later.

If only Capcom would fund a new game in the series, as the game’s original director Hideki Kamiya is definitely up for making a sequel.

Okami HD is released for PS4, Xbox One and PC on December 12.
