Polestar says it’s the end.

We’ve known for a while now that Volvo and Polestar are splitting up to better conquer the automotive world, but Polestar made it official today with a poignant post on Instagram.

By simply posting “The End.” the brand marked the end of more than 20 years of collaboration. Polestar will now go its own way, producing performance cars with electric propulsion, while Volvo continues on its mission of luxury.

Despite the split, the relationship between the brands will remain amicable, with Polestar continuing to use Volvo bits. It will also continue fettling Volvos, but under the name “Polestar Engineering.”

Polestar is expected to premiere a 600 hp coupe concept this fall. We’re also expecting to get a clearer picture of what the future holds for the brand.

So far, the split seems anything but dramatic, but it remains a watershed moment for two brands that have been intimately linked or years.

The Instagram post does seem to indicate, though, that the carbon fiber aero pack on the S60 and V60 are the last Volvo Polestar upgrades that will ever be available, which is apt because the heavy use of the substance is expected to define the performance cars that Polestar will produce.
