In a decision clearing the way for the latest expansion of Northwell Health beyond Long Island, the New York State Department of Health has approved the Visiting Nurse Association of Hudson Valley’s request to join the system.

The Tarrytown-based Visiting Nurse Association will become part of Northwell, providing services to residents of Westchester and Putnam counties.

The association employs 350 providers who provide home care to about 6,000 patients and includes a certified home health agency, licensed home care services agency and hospice agency.

Merryl Siegel, regional executive director of post-acute services for Northwell Health, said the system looks “forward to building on VNA of Hudson Valley’s long legacy of care and expanding home-based services to families in Westchester and Putnam counties as part of the Northwell Health Home Care Network.”

As it expands north, Northwell already has added Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco, Phelps Memorial Hospital Center in Sleepy Hollow and Westchester Health Associates, a medical group with more than 100 providers in 39 locations throughout Westchester, Putnam County and Stamford, Conn.

“We are excited about our future as part of the Northwell Home Care Network,” said Michele Quirolo, president and CEO of VNA of Hudson Valley. “Joining with Northwell Health provides the opportunity to accomplish even greater things.”

The Northwell Health Home Care Network already includes about 2,000 nurses, physical and occupational therapists, speech/language therapists, social workers and home health aides who work with 40,000 patients in Long Island, Queens, Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx and Staten Island.
