In its fifth season, Billy on the Street has garnered truTV’s first-ever Emmy nomination. Nominated for outstanding variety sketch series, the show hosted by comedian Billy Eichner, has a lot to be thankful for.
“I did a Billy on the Street bit with Seth Meyers when he hosted a few years ago,” recalls host and executive producer Eichner. “But I have never been in a category that was handed during the main ceremony, so that’s cool.”
Stopping by The Hollywood Reporter’s offices for a candid conversation about his Emmy nomination and the series he calls his “baby,” Eichner also mentions his crucial Billy on the Street crew. “A lot of the kids who work with on the show — a lot of us have been working on it together for five years and they’re all very exciting. And I’m excited.”
When asked about what he thinks of Stephen Colbert taking the hosting reins or the Emmy ceremony, he said: “I can’t imagine a better fit this year.”
“It would be so far removed from reality to have someone who just decided they’re not going to talk about the political situation that much,” Eichner points out.
