Sara Vandermark, Thomas de Swardt

Sara Laglia Vandermark and Thomas William de Swardt were married Aug. 12 in New York. The Rev. Dr. Kevin Moroney, an Episcopal priest, performed the ceremony in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd at the General Theological Seminary.

The couple met at the University of Pennsylvania, from which each earned an M.B.A. They started dating in February 2014.

The bride, 34, is a vice president at Goldman Sachs in New York, working on regulatory technology strategy. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Delaware.

She is the daughter of Margherita N. Vandermark and David L. Vandermark of Vestal, N.Y. Her father retired as the city chamberlain for Elmira, N.Y. Her mother is the office manager in Binghamton, N.Y., for NAC Entertainment, which takes touring Broadway shows to cities in New York State and Pennsylvania.

The groom, 32, is a senior vice president in the United States private equity unit of the D. E. Shaw Group in New York. He focuses on the firm’s investments in renewable energy. He graduated summa cum laude from Columbia.

He is a son of Diana A. de Swardt of Harare, Zimbabwe, and the late Marthunes L. A. de Swardt. His mother is a landscape and interior design consultant in Zimbabwe. His father developed hospitals and other medical facilities there.
