Stranger Things season 2 is still a couple of months away from premiering on Netflix but the creators are already thinking about the end game.

Fans are still waiting patiently for Stranger Things season 2 to come out on Netflix on Oct. 27 but the creators, Ross and Matt Duffer are already thinking about how much longer the popular show will last.

According to a report from Vulture who had a wide-ranging interview with The Duffer Brothers about their Emmy-nominated series, the show is likely to end after season 4. This comes on the heels that the show has already been renewed for a third season and that the fourth will be the one to tie together all the loose ends and answer and lingering questions that.

“We’re thinking it will be a four-season thing and then out,” says Ross, via Vulture. By then, the original band of adorable preteens will be ready for college. “We just have to keep adjusting the story,” says Matt. “Though I don’t know if we can justify something bad happening to them once a year.”

Of course, it’s always tough to imagine a show as beloved and popular as Stranger Things ending, but that’s also an inevitability that can’t be avoided. I’d rather the show end on top than stringing the story along for the sake of making some money. If the product isn’t good, then it diminishes the legacy of the show.

Four seasons sounds like it could be the perfect number to tell the story of these kids and these people of Hawkins, Indiana. It’s tough to predict what the fourth season will look like considering the second and third seasons haven’t even aired yet, but it will be interesting to see the Stranger Things kids grow up in front of our eyes over the next few years.

That also raises another interesting question about whether all of the kids will be back for all four seasons or if there will be sweeping changes after season 2. It would be tough to adjust to a show without Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard and the rest of the kids that made the show what it is, so hopefully, they along with David Harbour and Winona Ryder will be a part of the show for the duration of the series.

Stranger Things season 3 is likely to air sometime late in 2018 and then the fourth and potentially final season would air sometime in 2019. Of course, that can be subject to change as we are years out from all of this.

The good thing, there will be at least two more seasons after the second season airing on Oct. 27. The bad, the show won’t last forever, but we already knew that, so we have a couple years to brace for this moment.
