Abstract: Objective To evaluate the effects of muscle balance surgery and Ponseti method on the congenital clubfoot based on the analysis of long-term follow-up. Methods We retrospectively analyzed effects of Ponseti method and muscle strength balance surgery on cngenital talipes equinovarus. There were 397 cases ( 439 feets ) in the muscle strength balance surgery group and 305 cases ( 368 feets ) in the Ponsti method group. The F-M method was used to evalute the severity of the foot deformity preoperation and the theraputic effects were evaluated by our designed scale. Results The were no statistical differences between the two groups on the foot deformity. Based on the designed scale, there were statistical differences between the two groups on the long-term follow-up ( P < 0.05 ). The therapeutic effects in the Ponseti method group were superior to the muscle balance group. ( 95.4% vs. 91.6% ). Conclusions Based on the long-term follow-up, therapeutic effects in the Ponseti method group is superior to the muscle balance group.
