iPhone, my car and the alphabetical playlist

I love my phone. And I love that it talks to my car via bluetooth or USB.

But there are a few things that drive me crazy and, based on a Google search, I’m not alone.

When I plug in my phone it plays “ABC” by the Jackson 5…every single time.

Even if I was listening to a podcast, plug it in and …”ABC”.

Now I’ve rented other cars with other systems. “ABC”. Every. time.

In fact, if I let it keep playing, it plays everything on my phone in ALPHABETICAL order.

That is the craziest playlist default in the world!

To be fair, if I hop out of the car for groceries and hop back it it MAY remember.

But sometimes it doesn’t. Instead… “ABC”.

Sometimes I was playing nothing, and hop back into the car and then… “ABC”.

Sometimes I’m listening to a podcast and when I hop back in… “ABC”.

I can hear it start to play the podcast (using Apple’s own podcast app) and then that fades away because, y’know, “ABC”.

Grrrrr…

(Delete ABC? I just get the next thing on my alphabetical list)

The phone should have a setting that asks:

if connected to external device do the following:

-do nothing/play nothing

-play randomly from this selected playlist

-continue to play the last audio file the phone was playing (podcast, music, etc.)

And it’s important to note that if it plays from where it left off, it should remember that forever.

FOREVER.

No jumping in the next month, next week or next day and it forgetting.

All the above is what I would label as “the expected experience”. Like jumping into a car a decade ago and expecting that if I was listening to the radio, a CD or whatever, it pretty much selects what I was doing before. I can’t imagine anyone tolerating turning on the ignition and expecting the radio but it playing a CD. Or expecting silence and then, "ABC". Or, to put it another way, plugging in your headphones and it starting to play music…alphabetically. Crazy.

I was really hoping iOS10 would fix this, but perhaps 10.1?

I mean, how much code would this really take?
