Man charged with assault after throwing broom in road rage incident

WASHINGTON — A Stafford man has been charged with assault for a road rage incident in a Sheetz parking lot involving a broom on Thursday.

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office said a man had pulled into the parking lot of a Sheetz off Virginia State Route 3 in the southern part of the county and was walking toward the convenience store.

Another car pulled into the parking lot carrying 18-year-old Terrell Garnett.

The sheriff’s office said Garnett got out of his car, started walking toward the victim while yelling and cursing at him.

Garnett then allegedly punched the victim in the left side of his head while yelling he had a gun.

Fearing for his life, the sheriff’s office said the victim pulled out a knife and Garnett ran back to his car.

The driver then circled the store, pulled up close to the victim’s car and Garnett got out and threw a broom at the victim’s car, denting the door.

Garnett and the driver left the parking lot, but were later found at a neighboring Wal-Mart.

Garnett was arrested and charged with assault, disorderly conduct and destruction of private property.

He was released on $1,500 bond.
