During the 2002-2003 NBA season, Kobe Bryant was a sneaker free agent. He hadn’t renewed his contract with the three stripes after adidas Basketball got a bit too experimental with their Kobe line. Part of the agreement was that Kobe could only wear select brands for a number of games at a time before pledging his allegiance to one. Of course, Jordan Brand was one of the select athletic imprints to gift Kobe some exclusives featuring the iconic Lakers shades of purple and gold including an Air Jordan 3 Kobe PE that recently saw an incredibly limited pack given to select individuals alongside an Air Jordan 8 Kobe.
As rare as those Kobe x Jordan Retros are, they don’t have anything on the recently auctioned off original Air Jordan 3 Kobe PE from 2002-2003. This sample “Home White” pair was made for Kobe himself featuring size 14 with the production date of 11/26/2002 written on the tongue tag. Kobe wore this pair in games against the Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs that year. The pair comes with tradition white leather and cement elephant print, but Lakers gold and purple shades hit the heel, Jumpman branding, and lining. The pair recently sold on eBay for $30,400 USD despite showing noticeable signs of wear. They were 15+ years old after all. How much would you pay for this legendary find?
