Following NSA endorsement, the US government can buy secure messaging tools from BlackBerry
BlackBerry has announced that it is now able to sell its secure messaging solutions to the US and Canadian governments. The news comes after the company received endorsement from the NSA's National Information Assurance Partnership for SecuSUITE for Government.
BlackBerry points out that governments have long had to contend with wiretapping and other forms of surveillance, and says that SecuSUITE for Government offers effective end-to-end encryption for voice calls and text messages.
The security solution is already used by numerous governments around the world, including some in Europe and Asia, and BlackBerry will be happy to have added the US and Canada to that list. Announcing the news, the company says that this is its "first secure mobile voice product listed on both the NIAP Product Compliant List (PCL) and NSA Commercial Solutions for Classified Program (CSfC) List."
The announcement goes on to say:
With the NIAP Common Criteria certification, SecuSUITE for Government can now help Federal agencies safeguard sensitive conversations against electronic eavesdropping. BlackBerry's solution is hosted on premise, giving full control to the customer, something agencies want and need. It is highly reliable and delivers secure calls over carrier networks the same as secure calls over Wi-Fi, and because it works across all networks, there is no need to lock an organization into a single carrier.
BlackBerry tweeted about its SecuSUITE platform, highlighting how it can now be used by the US and Canadian governments:

No details of when the tools will be used have been released.
