I may stand alone on this topic and if thats the case then so be it, but I think Google is way to big for their britches and personally I dont like anything Google claims to represent. Little by little Google has dominated the internet(among other fields) and the bigger they grow, the more they take and the less freedom, rights and choices we get in return and no one seems to be concerned. This completely baffles me!
But in all fairness, Google doesnt stand alone. Facebook runs a close second. Ive personally experienced what Facebook is capable of yet has it stopped me from using Facebook? Nope it has not and Im not proud of it. But thats beside the fact. Since this is my first post, Im going to keep it short and sweet and I hope I get the opportunity to get to chat with some of you and hear your thoughts and opinions.

Thanks

Our concerns about Google and privacy, etc. were expressed in here many years ago but you are right. We seem to have accepted that this is the way things are.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld pollywog

I don't believe that's the correct description. For those of us that have been around long enough, will know that the Internet has changed significantly, and it's up to anyone that uses it to be more aware. Oh, and you cannot single out Google: Most major online businesses are there to make money and are using your data to do that. It's been like that for many years. Social media is a bigger privacy concern, imho.

It's in our hands - stop using it if people don't like it.

Yes but nowadays that's a bit like saying stop breathing if you don't like the smell! ;)

Or maybe consider opting out. They even tell you how and where to do that, but it's not in your newsfeed. Click on their "Privacy" link.

G is following the footsteps of all monopolies. This is nothing new, or even sinister, it is greed while we can make it and control the market and kill all competition philosophy.

Rage against the Machine, on the other hand, won't produce much in the way of results, but who you elect to your government MIGHT (think trust busters).

Meanwhile, you play the hand you're dealt and make the best of it.
