SAN JOSE — Madison Bumgarner certainly finished his final rehab start on a high note.

After getting shelled for nine runs and allowing four home runs in his previous start on Wednesday, the San Francisco Giants ace walked off the mound to a standing ovation at the sold out San Jose Municipal Stadium and bounced back with a vintage performance, striking out eight batters while allowing only two hits and no earned runs in six innings of work against the Modesto Nuts on Monday.

Bumgarner’s fastball was sitting around 88-91 miles per hour, but it was his off-speed pitches that were really working and helped him accumulate the high strikeout total. After reaching 85 of his scheduled 90-pitch limit on Monday, Bumgarner’s next start is expected to come for San Francisco as soon as club resumes play after the All-Star break.
