Police investigate 2 dead bodies found in McLean home

Update 7/15/2017 6:20 a.m.: Fairfax County detectives have identified two women who were found dead Friday inside a McLean, Virginia, home as Helen Lorena Hargan, 23, and Pamela Denise Hansen Hargan, 63. Officials say the 23-year-old shot her mother and then herself.

WASHINGTON — Police are investigating the discovery of two dead bodies found in a McLean, Virginia, home Friday.

Officers discovered the bodies of two females at the home on the 6700 block of Dean Drive at around 2 p.m. after receiving a tip that someone inside may have been killed, Fairfax County police said in a news release.

Officers tried to communicate with anyone that may have been inside the home, but were unsuccessful. They asked neighbors to remain inside their homes.

According to the news release, it is still very early in the investigation, but there seem to be no threats to public safety. Fairfax County police spokesman Don Gotthardt told media outlets in a news conference that one theory police are pursuing is a murder-suicide.

The home was occupied by a grandmother, a mother and a 7-year-old girl, NBC Washington reported. The girl was not home when the bodies were found and she is not reported as missing.

Detectives will be on the scene throughout the night, seeking further information.
