• Marathon Enterprises Inc. has issued a recall for more than 7.1 million pounds of beef and pork hot dogs.

• The recall is a result of customers finding small pieces of bone and cartilage in the meat.

• Affected brands include Sabrett, Papaya King, 1906 Premium, Western Beef and Stew Leonard's.

Check your package before you fire up the grill this week, Marathon Enterprises Inc. has issues a recall of more than 7.1 million pounds of beef and pork hot dogs as well as sausages and salami. The announcement comes after customers reported small pieces of bone and cartilage in their products.

The affected batch contained products from Sabrett, Papaya King, 1906 Premium, Western Beef and Stew Leonard's with use-by or sell-by dates between June 19 and October 6. The recall also affects hot dogs and salami that have been distributed to restaurants and food services under the Sabrett, Nathan's Private Label and Katz's Delicatessen label. The most popular brand, Sabrett, is sold in arenas, concert venues and convention centers across the country. It is also known for being sold by street vendors in Manhattan.

"Sabrett has a 90-year history of assuring the safety and quality of its beloved hot dogs, and deeply regrets any concern or inconvenience this has caused its many loyal customers. Sabrett is committed to swiftly and thoroughly executing this recall," they wrote in a statement on their website. "Sabrett is working closely with the USDA to effectively communicate to its customers with regards to this recall and to assure those customers that the recalled products are no longer in stores."

One minor oral injury has been reported as a result of this recall. Customers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them and to return them to their place of purchase.
