The candidate serves as a personal and confidential staff assistant to Assistant Secretary and the Deputy Assistant Secretaries for the Department of Transportation (DOT) Office of the Secretary (OST) Office of Governmental Affairs. The Office of Governmental Affairs is responsible for coordinating all departmental relationships with Congress and assisting in the development and communication of the Department's legislative programs; maintaining liaison with states and local governments, labor, industry, and citizen groups to ensure the consideration of their views in the Department's decision-making process and to communicate Administration policies and initiatives to them. Governmental Affairs is responsible for supporting the goals of the Department's Strategic Plan focusing our efforts at the broad objective level, rather than the activity level. The candidate provides a wide variety of office management services, which contribute immeasurably to conserving the Assistant Secretary and the Deputy Assistant Secretaries time while also providing support to the Immediate Office of the Secretary when needed.
The Ideal Candidate Statement: The candidate must be highly organized, able to manage multiple calendars for senior political appointees, possess communication skills to interact with senior officials via telephone, email or in person, experienced in scheduling government travel, handling the vouchering process, experienced in operating a variety of office automation software.
