Trump Jr. denies dad knew about Russia meeting

Donald Trump Jr. said during an interview with Fox News that he “probably would have done things a little differently” when he met with a Russian lawyer to get dirt on Hillary Clinton.

The president’s eldest son claimed he was just doing “opposition research” and that he hadn’t told his father about the meeting because “there was nothing to tell.”

“They had something, you know, maybe concrete evidence to all the stories I’d been hearing about … so I think I wanted to hear it out,” Trump Jr. told Fox’s Sean Hannity.

“But really it went nowhere and it was apparent that wasn’t what the meeting was about.”

Trump Jr. was slightly evasive when asked whether he read the emails that said the Clinton dirt was “high level and sensitive information” and “part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump.”

“I didn’t know if there was anything behind it,” he claimed. “I can’t vouch for the information … someone sent me an email! I can’t help what someone sends me.”

Although Trump Jr. was vague about whether he had read the information, the email chain shows he responded “within minutes.”

“If it’s what you say I love it especially later in the summer,” he wrote in the emails published by the New York Times and tweeted by Trump Jr. himself.

The disclosure of the June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower takes place as special counsel Robert Mueller is investigating the administration for possible collusion with Russia.

Trump Jr. has repeatedly denied meeting with Russian officials in the past, referring to the allegations as “fake news.”
