  • A new Tony Allen album called The Source will come out on Blue Note Records in September. The Afrobeat pioneer is calling the 11-track album the best recording he's ever made. ??It's his second appearance on the iconic Blue Note label, following a recent EP titled A Tribute to Art Blakey. It features collaborations with Damon Albarn, who features on "Cool Cats," as well as Yann Jankielewicz (saxophone), Rémi Sciuto (saxophone), Vincent Taurelle (keyboard), Daniel Zimmermann (trombone) and Mathias Allamane (double bass). Allen's music has long resonated in the electronic music world. He's been remixed by the likes of Carl Craig, Moritz Von Oswald and Ricardo Villalobos & Max Loderbauer, and is set to perform at Dekmantel Festival two years in a row, first with his band in 2016 and then alongside Jeff Mills in 2017. (Allen played live with Mills at the iconic Paris jazz venue New Morning in December of 2016.) The album's launch event will take place at The Jazz Cafe in London on Friday, September 22nd. Tickets are available here on RA. Blue Note Records will release The Source on September 8th, 2017.
