Ducati sent out a “save the date” notice alerting of an upcoming launch event and indications are it will be related to the company’s new V-4 superbike. The notice teases a Sept. 7 launch at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, promising “the sound of a new era is coming”. We’ve already seen spy photos of Ducati’s V-4 prototype undergoing testing and it appears we’ll see the first official signs of it soon.

While the “save the date” doesn’t explicitly say what the event is for, the wording and location offer some hints. The launch setting offers a big clue: the event is scheduled for Misano ahead of a MotoGP round where Ducati will be racing its V-4 Desmosedici.

The title”Sound of a new era” also tells us a couple of things. The “new era” could represent the switch from Ducati’s traditional V-Twin engines to the new V-4. The new powerplant will have a noticeably different roar as well, which explains the reference to “sound.” The phrase is also reminiscent of a similar “save the date” for the final edition 1299 Panigale, which Ducati called “When the end tells the whole story.”

The word “sound” may also suggest Ducati will only present the V-4 streetbike engine and save the full model unveiling for EICMA in November. For a project of this importance, it wouldn’t be surprising if Ducati wants to extend the anticipation, starting with the reveal of the new engine.

We’ll find out in just over a month at Misano. Keep checking here at Motorcycle.com for further information as it emerges.

Normally a "save the date" notice means that your presence is required.
Is Ducati flying one of our MOrons to Misano for the unveiling?

When a talented moto journo relays an event, he can make you feel like you were there. When you watch it on your phone ... it feels like you watched it on your phone.

Oh well, if DC is right and they're just introducing an engine, I guess that wouldn't warrant flying people in. I'm sure they'll send a press release indicating how successful the event was. Maybe I'll just wait for that.
